For the Journey – Music and Lyric by Steve Bell
For my Godsons: Joe-Michelle Fontaine and Will Gibbs

May the Lord bless and keep you
May His face shine upon you
May His graciousness be like an endless stream
May the Lord show His favour
To your house and your neighbor
Until last remaining strains of striving cease

    May He grant you peace
    ’cause in my heart
    there’s a sadness building up
Every turn adds to the cup
As the losses match the measure of my gains
In the shadow of this curse
Where the best implies the worst
If you’re like me you’ll need to hear somebody pray

Steve, This song comes to me shortly after sharing some tragic news locally. My daughter works with and for a Baptist camp in our town as well as one in Maine. There is an older gentleman who works for them as well. His family lived nearby. His daughter was shot several times, his granddaughter was shot and killed and the husband/father then shot and killed himself. Olivia was only 17 yrs. of age and she was closely involved with many young people who work for this camp. The grandfather still works there. My daughter has already attended her funeral service this past Monday where hundreds and hundreds of classmates and friends were also in attendance. One of the directors at the camp has asked my daughter to assist him in preparing a celebration of life for Olivia Marchand here in Groton at the Camp and Conference Center on Feb. 20,2010. Gabrielle has been involved in preparing a video/powerpoint presentation with music for this event/celebration. This is a song that seems to fit the occasion. I would ask you to add this to your list of prayers: that Olivia rest well in the Hands of Our Lord and that her Grandfather who is left behind with his wounded and failing daughter (Olivia’s mother/Jody) be graced with courage and peace of some sort as he watches his daughter hang on to life…and Jody /that she manages to give herself to the Lord for whatever His choice might be…this is truly a painful time and your lyrics in this song cover much of what I have been experiencing while watching my daughter navigate through this very sad set of circumstances. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing your highs and lows with all of us. It shows me just how much you care and I appreciate your service to the world. You are a good person.
      Sincerely,
      Linda W.
      Groton, Ma.
