I have worked in a orphange in Kenya and seen the slums and the poor. The children in the orphange have hope due to sponsors but those on the street are left in hopelessness except for workers who are starting homes for them. Now a group from North Bay are working to start a home for the street girls, as they are the lowest of lowest. A class at our local high school has twined with a class near Kitale and recently raised $2,100. for the school. Thank the Lord that a few more people see what poverty really is! Likewise I agree with Steve that news depends on what CNN wants you to watch or the polical will of the day. I have no news to date on my sponsored child in Peru. As of this winter, the families were still staying beside their pile of rubble from the earthquake in August. Food was coming in twice per week. Yessica could be dead! The Sister of the Diocose of Pembroke set up the sponsorships and also have been doing a feeing program for a number of year. Humble servents for God! My prayer is that we can save some, send out the work and reach the hearts of others that can assist in our effort. We as a society tend to grumble at the slightest change in our routines- something as simple as the morning service being 2 minutes over the hour disrupts us into complaint mode.I'm sitting here in shock at the mental pictures your trip is giving and simply can't imagine the atrocities you're going through ( l'm itchy just thinking about the bed bugs). What an opportunity to see the other side of the fence from a reality point. With the popularity of reality tv nowadays l'm left wondering just where is the reality? Just what is hard in life after all the dust settles? Atleast here we can say with some certainty that it will settle and life progresses along smoothly. My prayers are with you as you finish up you trip.Keep your chins up and look to Christ for strength and refuge in this crazy place we call home ( for now ).
