Some of you know of my relationship to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank over the past several years. CFGB is a hunger relief and development organization that is doing some terrific work.

Nanci and I have traveled oversees with CFGB to lands like Ethiopia, Kenya, Bangladesh and India. As much as these trips heightened my appreciation for the complexities of chronic poverty and the complexities of poverty relief, I was more dramatically challenged to consider my own use of resources, particularly food and energy, realizing that, to a significant degree, our overuse and consumption is directly linked to resource shortage and climatic shock in vulnerable regions of the world. This Friday, October 16 is World Food Day and CFGB is encouraging folks to fast for the day and then gather in communities in the evening to talk about, and pray about the issues of food justice. I have no idea what events are planned in other locals, but in Winnipeg there is gathering at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church at 6 pm.
