KindnessWhen, in spring of 2010, Kinsey Posen of CBC Winnipeg called to say he was producing a project of Manitoba artists recording the songs of other Manitoba artists, I jumped at the chance to record a couple of gems penned by songwriters Gord Johnson and Byron O’Donnell – two of my favorite songwriters who are regrettably under-sung and under-celebrated. It was during the recording of that project that I started to take inventory of potential songs for my own project and suddenly realized I had enough for a fairly strong album. My manager was a little taken aback to get a call from me saying that I wanted to record. But after a two-day woodshed session with Winnipeg veterans Gilles Fournier (bass), Daniel Roy (drums) and newbie-wunderkind Joey Landreth (electric guitar), we were all convinced of the strength of the material. And so, with a little schedule adjusting and more than a few fundraising calls, we set out in late August to begin work on my 16th career album. |

Devotion“Throughout my career, folks have told me that there is a consistent theme or quality of worship to the music I record – so I suppose it should not be surprising that I would eventually release an album that is deliberately and consciously a “worship album.” And this new one, Devotion, would be it.” – Steve Bell Produced in Vancouver by the legendary Roy Salmond, Devotion is a surprising collection of rich and thoughtful worship music drawn from Scriptures, the Liturgy and inspired, in part, by the tradition of Taize. |

Sons & DaughtersResponding to demand to hear more of Sarah after her cameo appearance singing on Steve’s Simple Songs album, Steve and his daughter Sarah teamed up to produce this highly textured recording. The Feast of Seasons - ChristmasThe Feast is a wonderful, eclectic mix of origional, traditional and obscure songs happily unearthed for the Feast of Seasons that is Advent, Nativity and Epiphany. “This recording took on a depth that was not my doing. I have been blessed to have wonderful folks speak into my life, and in this instance, that blessing became a fish and loaves event.” - Steve Bell |

Burning EmberOne of Steve’s personal favorites, Burning Ember is the project which cemented his creative relationship with long-time co-producer Dave Zeglinski. From the folk-mystic content of Burning Ember, to the porch-blues lament of Psalm 13, to the high-flying bluegrassy I will Not be Shaken, this collection sets the tone for the broad stylistic path that has come to characterize Steve’s work. |
