The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)
Music and Lyric by Paul Simon
Slow down, you move too fast
You’ve got to make the morning last
Just kickin’ down the cobble stones
Looking for fun and feelin’ groovy
Hello lamp post, what’cha knowing
I’ve come to watch your flowers growing
Ain’t ya got no rhymes for me
Doot-in’ doo-doo, feelin’ groovy
Got no deeds to do, no promises to keep
I’m dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all it’s petals on me
Life I love you
All is groovy
Lauds - Music by Steve Bell
Lyrics adapted from Venite, A Book of Daily Prayer by Robert Benson
Drive far from us all wrong desires
Incline our hearts to keep your ways
Grant that having cheerfully done your will this day
We may when night comes
Rejoice and give you thanks
Through the one who lives and reigns with you forever
And the spirit of the great unsounded deep
In the tenderest compassion
The morning star has risen
To shine upon the darkness
To light a path to peace
As I walk through this field in the fall time
Leaves become a red carpet as I pass by
Don’t know why but the world’s in its prime right now
As I walk the prairie skies are vacant
Pick up stones the river hasn’t taken
The firefly that danced with the frost silently dies
I hear traces of old familiar songs
The cold wind blowing helps to rush me along
And here I found You in your glory
On that cold October morning
In this clearing by the river
I felt a subtle shiver
I know You waited for me
Every wave on the water it is dancing
Looks as though summer never happened
The trees o’er my head sway as the sky starts to blaze
I never thought that You’d give me a love song
Never saw it’s been here all along
I close my eyes to cover a tear
That’s made it down my cheek and now I hear
Your voice it speaks so soft and clear
You’ve seen Me everywhere
Everything’s lies
Hammered in gold
I’m getting tired tonight
I’m getting old
Whatever I want
Is promised to me
Just a little bit more of this
Then I need to sleep
Everything’s lies
Glittering cheap
Thinly disguised as light
Sweet DDT
Sold with a song
Endorsed by a star
Oil on a sore desire
Soul seeking dart
Everything’s lies
And isn’t it swell
Sex in a silver cup (serve it up)
With the televangel
No worries here
Trust the TV
Nothing of consequence
God on a leash
She’s had eighty some years
Most of them good
But she’s not gonna be here much longer
And the body gets weak
As she knew that it would
But the spirit just keeps getting stronger
She’s got her Bible and hymn book beside her
She’s storing those psalms and old songs up inside her
She’s getting ready
She’s getting ready
She’s getting ready for glory
She’s getting ready
She’s getting ready
She’s getting ready for glory
She knows all of the verses
To how great thou art
And the spirit doth magnify often
And she’s gonna keep learnin’
The scriptures by heart
’till the day that she’s laid in her coffin
She wants to be sure when the angels come take her
That she’s got some greetings for meeting her maker
And she will tell us
If we’ll only listen
It’s not about dyin’
It’s all about livin’
And whether we’re young
Or the end’s drawing near
There’s just one reason why God has us here
We’re getting ready…
Psalm 116 – Steve Bell
Adapted from the Anglo-Genevan Psalter
I love the Lord the fount of life and grace
He heard my voice my cry my supplication
Inclined his ear gave strength and consolation
In life in death I’ll always seek his face
The cords of death held me in deep despair
The terrors of the grave caused me to languish
I suffered untold grief and bitter anguish
In my distress I turned to God in prayer
I cried to him oh I beseech thee Lord
Preserve her life and prove thyself my saviour
The Lord is just and he shows grace and favour
In boundless mercy he fulfills his word
The Lord preserves the helpless graciously
For when brought low in him I found salvation
Come now my soul relieved from tribulation
Return to rest the Lord has favoured thee
What shall I render to my Saviour now
For all the riches of his consolation
With joy I’ll take the cup of this salvation
And call upon his name with thankful vow
Jerusalem within your courts I’ll praise
The Lord’s great name and with a spirit lowly
I’ll pay all my vows oh Zion fair and holy
Come join with me and bless him all your days
This prince of thine oh Zion fair and holy
Come join with me and bless him all your days
I’ll Fly Away – Alfred E. Brumley
for Robert Heide
Some glad morning when this life is o’er
I’ll fly away
To a home on God’s celestial shore
I’ll fly away
I’ll fly away O glory
I’ll fly away
When I die Halleluiah bye and bye
I’ll fly away
When the shadow of this life is gone
I’ll fly away
Like a bird from prison walls are flown
I’ll fly away
Just a few more weary days and then
I’ll fly away
To a home where joy will never end
I’ll fly away
We Believe in Love - Music and Lyric by Steve Bell
True love is
Not often
Crisp roses chosen by a worthy suitor
More likely
Like chocolate
Much sweetness folded in a melt of bitter
How can we say that God has cheated us
When this crush of grief is proof that we have loved
We believe in love
We believe in love
We believe in love still
We believe in love
We believe in love
We believe and will until still comes
You must try and navigate these swelling seas
Your mom and I will stand up on the bow and sing
Hosea (Come Back to Me) – Gregory Norbet OSB
Come back to me with all your heart
Don’t let fear keep us apart
Trees do bend though straight and tall
So must we to others call
Long have I waited for
Your coming home to me
And living deeply our new life
The wilderness will lead you
To the place where I will speak
Integrity and justice
With tenderness
You shall know
You shall sleep secure with peace
Faithfulness will be your joy
