Steve was recently in the studio demo-ing a new song for his upcoming album. The song, “The Gifting and the Giver” was inspired by a Matt Richardson poem that Steve adapted for the song. I had a chance to sneak in and capture some rough footage on a Sony H1 camera (not intended for video!). However, a good friend of mine Daryl Hiebert helped me transform that rough footage in to this; a little preview of what’s to come on the new album.

]]>In this unique version of Everything We Need (originally recorded for Steve Bell’s 2008 release Devotion,) Steve teams up with Christian hip-hop artist Fresh I.E. to put a new sound to this powerful song written by Gord Johnson.
Fresh I.E. (Robert Wilson) is a Canadian multi-grammy nominated recording artist living in Winnipeg, traveling and ministering to at-risk urban and rural youth. This video depicts the simple beauty of God amongst people living in an urban landscape as well as the tension between faithful hope for a better world and the reality of urban poverty.

The original version of “Everything We Need” can be found on the album Devotion.aa“When I heard the rap Fresh brought into the studio, I knew this was going to work. His voice added strength and experience to my vision for the video and sparked the passion lying in Steve’s unwrinkled vocals.” Jeff Lukin/ video directora Read more of Director’s Commentary…aREVIEW: Local Juno-award winner Steve Bell teamed up recently with Fresh IE to bring you a new mish-mash rendition of Everything We Need. I love it when artists embrace each other’s talents from across genres. This culmination of creativity is what I think art is all about. By the way, isn’t the video done incredibly well. Exactly what I would have pictured. Hats off to everyone involved. – Kyle Rudge, Ignite 107 Radio Winnipeg |

]]>Drumheller Circle is one of Steve’s most requested songs and features the unique fingerstylings of someone who has spent many years immersed in the music of masters like Bruce Cockburn and Leo Kotke.
We’re experimenting with videos and have begun to develop others we’ll put up over the next months. For this one, Jeff Lukin (our web designer) rented a camera and forced Steve into the studio to shoot the song (Steve doesn’t like shooting videos). Later, with the help of his friend Daryl Hiebert, Jeff edited the footage and this is the result of our first in-house video. We had fun doing it – hope you like it. Check back for another next month. (Teaser: it involves Steve and Grammy Nominee rapper Fresh I.E.)
If you enjoy the video – please tell your friends.
