Hey Steve,
I first met you back in Ontario (my home province). Then i saw you years later at a church in Burien, WA when my friend, Brian Moss hosted a concert. I got to thinking of your music again this morning and am listening to Kindness. Great stuff!
Hope to see/hear you live again sometime.

Hi Steve,
Hope you don’t mind but I performed “Riide on King Jesus” with my choir at my Spring Band Concert last night and many were deeply moved by the power of the words and music. All the best with your new project–I love the last cut on your demo–very impacting.

I love the CD “Story and Song” . My daughter is in Gautemala with Canadian Mennonite College , learning Spanish and doing mission work and I missed her so I went down to her room to look for some of her CD’s to play. I found this one. I have played it twice today, all through. The first time when I was making supper and the second time for my husband when he came home. I can hardly stop crying. My heart has so been touched, esp. by the story, “pick up the phone” and the last two songs.
I appreciate so much the stories you tell about the songs you sing. It is very important. Please don’t stop. Your songs come alive when we know what inspired you to write them and how they came about.
God is honoreed in your stories and your songs, and his people are refreshed. We badly need that.
It is very hard to be a Christian in this day and age. I will say it,…especially in Canada.
God loves us so much! He desires fellowship with us so much! Christ came so we can have life, and have it ABUNDANTLY! I know all this, but sometimes I get discouraged.
Thank you for your testimony. It means more than I can say.
A fellow believe from Calgary,
Dawn

Hi Steve and group..
I have a mystery before me that you might be able to shed light on. I am one of the pastors of Leamington United Mennonite Church…Steve has played here before. Today we were talking about your (Brian MC:) song “Kindness” and using it as a Sending song for our worship…(actually Christine Longhurst is coming to lead us in worship/music workshops this weekend). I went and got my CD from the Honda, brought it in, put it into my laptop……and lo and behold, it plays the music from “Sons and Daughters”!!!!
I take it back out to the Honda, if plays Kindness. How do you manage such magic? Two albums for the price of one?????
Cheers and blessings

HI Steve,
Thanks for a most enjoyable concert in Abbotsford on Feb 29. Enjoyed the songs and the stories very much. I was the one who requested “In Billy’s Wake”. I didn’t mean to put you on the spot and would have been fine if you had stuck with not doing it. Maybe I should have spoken up to let you off the hook, so I really appreciate that you went ahead with it. I was actually quite sure I knew the words but then doubted myself so didn’t dare yell them out. Should have gone for it. At any rate, it was a great time. Thanks again..
BTW, I am not sure if the settings for this page can be changed, but it is really hard to read the words in the boxes that get filled in.

Hi Steve, I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoyed your concert in Surrey this past Thursday evening. Of course we love to hear you sing, but it is your stories that makes the concert even more special! Good luck on the rest of your tour.

Wow!…I haven’t seen you since High School!…Congrats on the wonderful Legacy you are Creating!..In Dec/11 I happened to be sitting iu!n Massey Hall in Toronto (a few blocks from where I work and live), at a concert performed by the St. Mike’s Boys Choir, while reading a MH brochure….To my surprise, I discovered that I had Just missed your performance here, by a week!…Was wondering when you will be back in TO, playing Massey Hall?…Would LOVE to see/hear you!

Steve; there are times where your music has blessed me so much and I wish we could meet in person; however I look forward to spending eternity with you and hearing your voice…….there are some dark times that I have walked through and your music has sustained and encouraged me, especially when my brother died; he committed suicide and I have tried myself. God is so faithful isn’t He and He has blessed you so much to write and speak the words of life to all peoples…….God continually bless you, your friends and family, and your church and all that you do in this life…….

Dear Steve,
Just read your blog, responding to students in Singapore, on questions they had asked you about your own experiences as a musician and your thoughts on internet piracy.
First of all, I’d like to say again how much my husband, Peter, and I have enjoyed your music and musings. We had just moved (Dec. 2) to Brantford so that our 4 year-old could begin school at the school for deafblind there and missed being able to take in your Massey Hall concert on the 3rd, but you can be assured, Peter and I were discussing, several times, the possible logistics of being able to steel away for that and were disappointed we could not figure out how to do so.
Thanks for staying the course and for loving Jesus and people, all along the way.
We are 43 and 45, respectively, and respectfully submit that we appreciate you and your family and co-workers and the outflow of ministry by way of your lives.

Steve – since you are enjoying studying the life of St. Francis, I thought you’d also value songs available as free downloads from this website (a ’70s LP done by Franciscan friars). The music is joyable. And pardon my lack of music knowledge, but some of the tunes, with thoughtful and worshipful lyrics, sound Charlie Brown-esque in their joy and simplicity: http://www.theancientstar-song.com/2011/08/franciscan-friars/ . All of the songs were composed by the Father Jerry Kaywell I reference below (back then known as Bro. Christian Kaywell).

Steve, I worked in radio back in Winnipeg when you were part of Elias, Schritt & Bell. You guys made some great music together and I have long since lost any of the analog recordings of your work. My favourite tune was “Jenny’s Song” but I have not been able to find a digital recording anywhere. Is there somewhere I could buy a copy of that wonderful song?

Hi Steve,
I wonder if you have considered specifically writing new choruses that would be sung mostly by people as part of worship in regular church services.
I think this would be a very natural expansion of your music ministry.

We had randomly picked an audio cassette in India in a christian store, later in the Middle East we would often here those songs in our car. A muslim friend of ours had taken our car for a drive and he heard this song ‘what kind of love is this’ from that cassette and was touched by the song. Years later now here in Canada I have been searching for that song not knowing who the author is. Thank you for that amazing song. Please upload ‘what kind of love is this’ to youtube.

Hi Steve,
We talked at the Emmanuel Church in Calgary about giving you back a piece of yourself regarding battles won, sing, sing, sing, play, play, play that the Holy Spirit used for me as well; Brad Jersak; my writing, speaking to help women escape domestic violence.
Anyway something came to me as a new product for you:
Your fans want the experience of you, they love to be “in the house” We love your stories as much as your songs.
Why not do little ebooks where you write the story (intrigue/setup) have the words to the song along with hearing the song (body of the story, the Ah Ha moment,action/conflict) then write the conclusion of the story/how it applies/God’s message to u. For the visual part of this you could create video of the picture you had in your mind as you sing/video of you performing the story and song.
We would love it and I understand you can have different kinds of links in ebooks.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas.
In His love,
Jacquie

Hi Steve,

Hello Steve,
Just wanted to drop a quick note of thanks! I own several of your albums and you have been at the top of my favorite artists list for quite sometime. I’m currently listening to Devotion. What a fantastic album! As a fellow guitar player I really appreciate your musicianship and your thoughtful and thought provoking lyrics. More than these, I’m thankful for the exaltation of Christ in your music. As a father of 4 I’m always looking for music for our family to enjoy and we have found your music to be the right fit. Keep up the great work!

Hi Steve,
I love your music and just recently discovered The Lorica. (Through Glen Soderhom). I also found the video of you on Hundred Huntley Street performing it. I am the pastor/worship leader of a small church outside Barrie and would love to learn it. Do you have tablature or music for this somewhere I can download or purchase. If so that would be great. I found a version but it seems to be missing the bridge and doesn;t have tab.
Be blessed,

Several years ago when you played with the Winnipeg Symphony, you played a Jewish Sabbath song or blessing. I’m still hoping to hear that on an album and possibly at the concert in Boissevain in December!?
It’s called Peace Be Unto You. I’m planning my next CD to be an Advent/Christmas Cd. The song will be on for sure. I’ll do it in Boissevain – but you might have to yell it out to remind me

Hi Steve-My wife and I caught your show in Campbell River last week. We have been to see you many times over the last few years and you always minister to us in a new and deep way. We talked briefly after the show and I told you our son was playing in Duncan at the Duncan Garage showroom the same night you were playing at the Presbyterian Church there. Well I could not stop thinking about the story you tell about you and your Dad all those years ago. I blessed my Boy that night, He blessed me more. Thank you for your ministry and please thank your Dad for me for his blessing on your life. Who knows where you would be now if he had not been the man of God he was and still is.
Thank you . My son Jordy would be thrilled if you liked him on Facebook- Check out J-Bird and the Twankies.

Hey Steve – we met and spoke back in Minedosa about 3 years ago. Doesn’t matter. I appreciated your article on Keeping Christ in Halloween. I’m still doing my Modern Seance Show and waiting on inspiration on how to bring it to the youth groups across the nation but I hold the same outlook – lets not run but dive into what the culture is attaching itself to and see how we might bring Christ into those arenas.
Blessings.

Just spent the evening at the concert here in Victoria, I have been fortunate to have had the chances to attend many of your visits here in Victoria, over the past years. I don’t think I will ever forget the first time I heard “Here by the Water” and the story you told with it.
Don’t stop doing what you do, you have a gift and I love to be around when you open it Steve.
Thanks again for a memorable evening….and by the way…Happy belated 50th…..and don’t forget,
growing old is not optional….growing up is.

Dear Steve,
I need to share something very personal with you. My husband and I first saw you in concert many years ago in Woodstock, ON. From that moment on, we became fans. We ended up moving to northern Ontario soon after. In February of 2004, my husband, Chris, was tragically killed when his car was struck by a passenger train just outside of Matheson, ON, while he was on his way to work in the early hours of the morning. He had just received his ordination as a licensed pastor weeks before. Also, we had just had our first baby, a little girl named Ocean. I was shocked and devastated. Soon after, I heard that you were doing a concert in Timmins. I attended your concert that night and stood at the very back of the church holding our infant daughter while I cried through each and every song you performed. Your music ministered to my broken heart in a wondrous and supernatural way that just lifted me and sustained me. For the past 7 years, I have continued to play your music and allowed your songs to penetrate my spirit and keep my heart open to God as I have struggled and tried to make sense of the path my life had taken. I have always felt that you are much more than a performer; you are a minister. Instead of standing behind a pulpit, you sit behind a guitar and put spiritual truths to song. I just wanted you to know how greatly your music and ministry have personally impacted my life and my spiritual journey. Thank you Steve for your faithfulness in fulfilling God’s calling on your life. With Blessings in return and ‘Shalom’, Judy Child.

Steve, I attended your performance at Waterloo Mennonite Brethren church last night at the suggestion of my sister. I did not know what to expect as I had not heard your music and story prior to attending.
I have to tell you that your solo performance was one of the most inspiring and moving shows I have ever been to. I (of course) brought home some of your cd’s with me and am listening to them this morning. One thing I would like to know is have you ever considered recording an accoustic solo cd? If you already have, please forgive the question as I only have 3 of your cd’s right now.
I would like to thank you for sharing your music, your life stories and genuine Kin-dness with us all last night. You are a gift to the people and I am thoroughly looking forward to seeing you again very soon!
God Bless.

Thank-you for coming to Portage on October 1. It was a great evening and very inspiring! Your CD”s are an important part of my musical library.
Posted on October 4th
I was at your show in Portage on Saturday – where nobody had ever heard of Pierce Pettis
That’s maybe not so unusual. Do you know his song “Swimming” from ’90 or so? That was my first Pierce Pettis song Your cover of “Absalom” really works.
The band really locks in and it’s amazing to see. Nothing gives me the shivers like musicians looking sideways at each other and talking back and forth with their instruments. Stage setup with everybody side by side helps with that although I don’t know if you do that all the time.
A couple of years ago I and some friends opened for you at a show in Buhler Hall at Gretna. We were in the dressing room going over our cover of Leo Kottke’s “Ring”. Yoo came crashing through the door in the middle of the song shouting, “Hey, that’s Leo Kottke.”
Tour well, don’t let your nails get raggedy.

Steve, I was at your Portage la Prairie concert..loved it..and I enjoyed the song Lord of my life is my Savior but couldnt find it on any of the CD’s you had at the concert. Maybe I missed it, however did buy one which thought could be the song under a different title but not so. Enjoying the CD but still looking for the above mentioned song and do you have any CDs made with the fellows that were with you in Portage….. please advise I would purchase on line if you can help me. Thanks so much

Hey Steve,
I was at your concert in Winkler yesterday. Besides identifying with the reality of middle age and empty nest and redefining my new role, your music and words fed a soul that is having a hard time picking up a paint brush. Usually music and a or a good book inspire me, and as of late I have not found inspired by either. It seems to be,that notes and words fall flat. I won’t say I won’t be in a longer dry period, however, I felt an emotion last night and today that I need to feel in order to create from deep down. So thank you,
Margruite

After living in Winnipeg for 26 years (leaving in 2007) and having the most wonderful good fortune to have first experienced your wonderful talent with Elias, Schritt, and Bell while playing at a very good friend of mines wedding, I was hooked. I continued to follow your solo career and have enjoyed it so much, especially your Winnipeg Symphony Sessions. My problem is that I miss seeing you perform in person, and although I would gladly travel to Toronto or Barrie here in Ontario, I understand from a pretty good source that you have a strong connection to the Cobourgh area. I would love to hear that you are performing closer to the Trenton, ON area and soon. Any thoughts? The kindest regards, Cindy

For my good wife and I, the most impacting of your work has been your symphony recording and significant for me has been ‘Devotion’. The material available through that CD has been very helpful and I would encourage you to consider working through some more of Gord Johnson’s writing. We have the pleasure of being moved by his material many a Sunday evening and would love to use more of his material in our music leadership. (Yes we use it legit.) Your renditions of his material has been very highly motivating. We could use even more.

I was with you at Oxbridge only a few weeks ago. This was the greatest event I have ever attended, and your contribution to the joy was significant. Thank you.
We spoke briefly about the music you played, and you recommended “Simple Songs” as the best source of the songs you played. I am trying to recall the composition of a young woman that you played that so moved all who were there. Can you refresh my memory on what you performed?

Hi Steve,
Blessings to you.
Just wanted to let you know again how great your ministry was a Nakamn Family Camp. Your Sunday Morning message – unfortunately untaped is still ringing in my mind. I wonder if you have any notes on it or the theme because I sure appreciated it.
(by the way I am an Associate at Don Palms church here in Sylvan Lake – my wife Teresa spoke with Rob & Jordy the Saturday of Family Camp)
All Christ’s best to you and yours.
Blessings in Him,
Jim
reply: hey Jim. No I don’t have any notes. That was the one session I was totally winging it. I’m sorry it wasn’t taped as well – I’d like to remember what I said.
It was a great time – God was with us for sure.

i’m looking for an email address to contact you or your “authoritarians” , but to no avail — so here i am commenting…and wondering if i have your okay to sing Here by the Water just once publicly:)
thanks and many blessings,

Reply from Faye – The song is written by Jim Croegaert. You’d need to contact him for permission to sing the song publicly.

England – Oxford, wow! If you get a chance to see the actuall wardrobe furniture that was the object of so much of Lewis’ imagination, it would be great if that prompted you to write a song. Either way, an idyllic adventure. Have a blessed trip.

Hey there,
I’d love to learn how to play your song “Cashe Island”. I haven’t been able to find any tab for it, so if you’ve got one, that would be great. But if you don’t, could you let me know what tuning you use for it? I’d really appreciate it.

Tara and I are still basking in remembrance of you at family camp this weekend. Amazing music, stories and truth. I journeyed from being star-struck to God-struck because of the way Jesus works through you.
What a refreshing, profound and radical message you gave Sunday re James:1v27. I’d love to hear it again if I knew when and where.

This is not my comment -Why is it so hard to make out what I am writing??? Everything on this page is difficult for my already too dim eyes. Please help out people like me!!!
Now – my comment which is really a question. With the US dollar below the canadian $$ why are the prices in $CDN higher?

Hi Steve!
This is really belated in coming, but on my “TO DO LIST” since we were at your concert April 16th with the WSO: we send along our deepest thanks and appreciation for an evening that was used by God to lift our spirits. What a blessing that whole evening was – in so many ways…even the “mess-ups” were an opportunity for us to realize the need in our own lives to give and receive grace! Thankyou to your gifted band members as well as the WSO, for such a delightful evening. Thankyou Nanci for your generosity to us all in ‘enabling’ Steve to do what he does. May God bless your marriage and family, and continue to make you a blessing! Thanks again!!

Hey, great to navigate your site. Lots of super stuff.
Steve, I am trying to purchase the piano score and lead sheet for “Even So, Lord Jesus Come”…is it available?
Also, would like to know if any plans are in the works to do any more concerts with a symphony like you did in Edmonton?

Greetings! I’ve not been on your site in so very long and was so bummed to read about your guitar! I do hope she feels and sounds just as you have always known her to be. Hoping to cross the river one of these days to see you in Ontario – darn paper work!!
Easter blessings to you and your family! Peace and grace – annette

I heard you in concert in St. Catharines
Ontario and it was just a wonderful evening…
I love your music.. I am a Parish organist -
is any of your music available for small choirs to use???

Well, Steve, I’ve seen you solo, with band, and with band and symphony. As well as I know you, I am deeply impressed with your gifts from the stage setting. It is a rare talent that gives nothing up travelling from one setting to another. You maintain a rapport with an audience that is a marvel and model of simple human interaction. And truly, you are very funny and I am man evough to not resent that. I also think you look younger every day and perhaps a bit taller.
Yes, Steve…after all this praise I expect pizza is surely on you again next time.

Hi,
My wife purchased tickets to your concert with your band and the Winnipeg Symphony Ochestra on Saturday, and asked me to go with her.
Living in Selkirk, I have heard concert announcements for years, but had not really heard your music previously.
I was very impressed with the concert on many levels. The first was the very diverse fan base, from children to Grandparents. Standing in the lobby with my wife while we waited for her girlfriend to join us, there was a very upbeat and positive feeling from all those in attendance.
We took our seats in row 8 just in front of your parents, unbeknownst to us until you introduced them. It was nice to be that close as it felt very personal, almost like a private concert.
The song selection was excellent, and the stories and introductions provided insight, making them more meaningful.
Your humour throughout the evening was most enjoyable.
I truly appreciated the amazing talent of your band, and enjoyed that you let each one of them show their talents individually. John McDermott said that he used to encourage his band members to out do him, and gave them the opportunity during concerts. A few of the talents were Ashley MacIssac, and Natalie MacMaster.
My son is a drummer and he would have loved the performance.
My favourite performance of the evening was “This is Love”. It was the first time I have heard the song. I love everything about it. It was very impressive with the Symphony behind you. I have been playing it numerous times daily since the concert. It is very moving. Was this actually featured in a movie?
I am very glad my wife asked me to attend the concert with her. It was very memorable.
Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us.

Winnipeg copncert was wonderful!!!!
I “knew” Steve would sing HE WILL KNOW
for the encore and I was not disappointed…after many losses in my life…the song speaks volumes to me.
THANKS

Great concert tonight Steve with the WSO. I liked the idea of having a split concert with you guys alone first. Your encore was really great and someone else I know commented on that too. You always look like you’re having a good time when you play and you have a way of putting people at ease. Thanks for a great night… Hey I don’t know how much you reply to these but I was wondering tonight how you feel after a 3 month tour like this is over? Are you glad to be done? Do you feel a bit of depression as you come down from the high pace? Anyway, I was just wondering what it was like for you. Thanks again. Wes

Steve- just a note to say how much my wife and friends and I enjoyed your Kindness show in Richmond BC. Your band was stellar as were you. We took the Kindness CD on the road with us a few days later. It was great to have you and the lads providing the musical/inspirational backdrop for our sometimes long drives between shows. I wish you many blessings on your life and music!

Hi Steve, Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed your concert in Kelowna. It was over the top wonderful! First time we had ever seen you with a band. All the players – amazing and even better than the music (ok maybe not better) was the joy that each one of you had while you played. Thanks for such a wonderful evening. My dream is to see you with the symphony! Definitely my favorite CD.

Had the privilege of hearing you on CJOB yesterday (Monday, April 4th) with karen Black. I remember a number of years ago you were looking to do an album for peoples who were in serious care (palliative, ICU…I cannot remember for sure). Did you ever make that album!!

Steve,
Your Kindness CD remains in heavy rotation in our family playlist.
The concert I attended in St. Catharines, Ontario a number of weeks ago still lingers; it was a tour de force of musicianship and artistic excellence.
Your art, supported by this thoroughly awesome band, was presented so very powerfully. In no way was the message lost or diminished; if anything it was enhanced as each player brought to bear the kind of professionalism that is moving and that inspires the spirit..
If only you could remain on tour with this ensemble indefinitely…nothing a lottery win wouldn’t solve I imagine.

Listening to Chim Chim Cheree.
Still in emotional overwhelm after the fine, sweet to jazzy, wonderfully melded effort of 5 powerhouses in the Kelowna concert. I have spent many hours writing to ALL about you and just resting in the effect your complex performance has had on me. Lyrics in Good Friend pierced my heart, to my surprise I just read that you had highlighted those very lines on the handout, coincidence?? No, my very amusing creative father God at work! I compare your lyrics to Gerard Manly Hopkins, to Bach fugues, to complex crystals, to mandalas, to kaleidoscopes, such exquisite nourishment for the evolving spirit. Your music has been the comfort and teaching to me these many years, since I was first given the Father and Daughter CD by my Wpg brother John who attends The Meeting Place .Liquid prayer, the flow of your praise music has always been available to me almost any time, like a river at the edge of a property, there for me to dip into much more often than a church service, (here by the water ) nourishing me as I grow in my faith. Your stream of songs has been very important to me. I have now been to 4 concerts, and have a brand new photo of US which I will send to Faye. I look very happy, which is true. With grace extended to me I also have a leader in my church who inspires me as much as you do, Pastor Stuart McKnight. I learn best thru the gentle words of wise men and women. When the delivery is kind and sincere there are no barriers for the lessons to occupy me. The more I listen to Kindness the more layers I discover. As if you are ripening, which reminds me ‘ An apple doesn’t try to be ripe, it just basks in the sun’
God bless you and keep you, special man.

Hi Steve,
Last year when you were in Victoria at Christ Church Cathedral you mentioned a book you read about St. Francis of Assisi. Could you please email me the name of the book and the author when you have a chance. I think it would be a great book for my son.
Warm regards, Cathy Pedde

Hi Cathy, Steve always includes some “oldies” in his CD release concerts, so that audiences will hear familiar tunes, too. This particular song you heard was “In the Morning”. It is on his Sons and Daughters CD, which is available at http://www.stevebell.com
Thanks for thinking of Steve getting some rest – we’ve plugged him in at home and he’s recharging as we speak.

Greetings from Dauphin Steve. Trust all is well with you and your family? Sorry I missed your last concert here in December! Like mentioned earlier praying for you and your ministry. Many talented musicians out there, but never heard so much “heart “woven into a persons music. I can really feel it when you play and sing. Hope you enjoyed the lyrics I left you on “Melody of the Heart”? Discovered there are many Brian Brugger musicians out there when I googled, I am the one from Minnedosa. God bless!

We were at the Winspear last night and, while I always love to see and hear Steve, it was particularly enhanced by the incredible musicians with him. I was very excited about this concert because I had my husband’s brothers and their wives along. Of course I had tried to convey to them the spirit of Steve Bell, avoiding the “Christian singer’ tag. One comment was that it was not what he expected-another ‘Christian singer-guitarist”- it was so much more than that. and there were a few cd’s purchased. Thank you Steve and band for filling me with joy and hope and faith and, I hope, kindness.

I loved your concert at Winspear last night! This is the fourth concert of yours we have attended (in Edmonton). As usual, you and the band did not disappoint us.
Your offering of stories and songs are a mesmerizing combination. I am enjying your new album, but was disappointed that one of the songs you sang last night was not on it. Don’t even know the title, but it was the second one about Love, Jesus speaking about his disciples, and leading to crucifixion. Could you please tell me what this song is called, and how I can obtain a recording? It is outstanding!
As this tour winds down, hope you are able to have a couple days to recharge.

Steve, I thoroughly enjoyed the concert in Calgary last night! It was so encouraging and such incredibly beautiful music. I brought a friend who had only heard one of your songs before and you sang it – Here by the water – so she was thrilled. She is definitely a new fan. I ripped open my new Kindness CD right away to listen to it on the way home. Love it! I also ran into an old friend afterwards, so it truly was a taste of Heaven! Thank you! And I loved “Feeling Groovy” at the end – so fun!!

Hello to Steve and all of your special team members. Just a simple thanks for all that you
poured into your concert in Regina March 9.
I haven’t missed too many of your concerts and this one was such a blessing as usual.
All the solo opporunites you opened up for your band members was such a gift in addtion to your own contributions of course.
Safe journey as you continue on your way.
Your musings about kin -dness were especially memorable to me. BLB

Dear Steve, i was at the concert in Cambridge, Ontario. I came away a bit disappointed. I have seen you solo and with a group and I nearly always prefer the solo concerts. The music is always good but the melding of the message and the music is always so much stronger when you are solo. At this concert, your music came first, followed by other artists and we were lucky to get a little bit of the message and your thoughts right at the end. I like musical talent but I come mainly to see and hear you. Also jazz is good but it does not move me spiritually like your songs. I know as you get older, it is easier to share the stage but I still prefer you and simplicity, not symphony orchestras and jazz combos. And it is even a bonus if the particular song could be used in worship. Keep on singing and encourage your daughter, Sarah, to keep on using her talents in music.

Steve – Hope you don’t mind this, but I just wanted to share lyrics to a folk song I scribbled when seeking encouragement–that I pluck to once in a while. I find it refreshing how the Lord can help us “make a new song” together and as individuals. Your ministry reminds me of that so much.
Water of Moses
Water of Moses over. . . dry land,

Many many years ago I saw a young Steve Bell with a couple of friends enjoying some food (greasy) and a cigarette (carcinogenous, but legal) at the Big Boy Drive In on Portage Avenue and Raglan Road. Of course, I was pleased to see them enjoying themselves in their youthful appetites. I was aware Mr. Bell was hugely talented and have watched his success in his music since with similar pleasure. But I will always remember that day at the soon to be razed eatery

I meant to add that the wording reminds me of a scene in the movie, “Brother Son, Sister Moon”, when St. Francis had that vision of the Christ in the chapel. I faltered in my Spanish spelling. It’s, “Soneto al Crucificado”.

Steve – just saw the Youtube video of your Biola U. visit. It ministers. You’re more laid back than the Californians!
You’ve probably read this some time, but I thought you would enjoy the English translations of the anonymous Spanish Poem, “Soneto al Crucifacado” (Sonnet to the Crucified). Here’s a link with variaitons on the translation:

I know. You’ve probably heard it all before. But, I just can’t resist. You completely blew me away at the Convene conference last week. I so appreciate your gifts. You gift to compose, sing and play are off the charts good.
I am astonished that here in the lower 48 we don’t know who you are. I realize Canada loves you enough to try and keep you to themselves. But, you are insanely good. I had to buy every one of your albums at the conference. And, I am working my way through all of them. I am blessed because you are blessed. Thank you for sharing what God has given you!
If you ever find yourself in Tulsa, Oklahoma let me know. I would love to share my roof and my family with you.

Hi Steve, (Please read to the end!)
I was first introduced to you at a Catholic School District “Faith Day”. I loved you!
Later, during the two months when my mother was dying in 2006, a special friend gave me one of your CD’S. I listened to that CD in my car everydayon my way to & from the hospital – it was the only music that ‘fit’ my life during those two months. My mother was a beautiful person – she taught me how to live, and then how to die. You were somehow a part of that.
That special friend who gave me your CD with be in the audience at Centre Street for your Mar. 11th performance. She has just retired at age 65(because she was wearing out) and is having a tough time leaving behind all the students that she gave her time & her love to.
I can’t begin to tell you how much time she has given & theh many ways she has helped “her” Sudanese boys who attended our highschool, either from her heart or her bottomless purse, of which there was never much left for herself. She is a true humanitarian. She has greatly helped one of her ‘boys’ with all the bureacracy necessary to actually start building a school in his home village in Sudan.
I was wondering if you would honour her huge heart on Mar.11 by dedicating a song to her. All you’d have to say is that there’s a very special lady in the crowd, and that you are going to sing a very special song just for her.
THANK YOU.
My deepest gratitude,
Audrey L.,

Always enjoy your work Steve! The new CD ‘Kindness’ is another worthy production. I also enjoyed very much the commentary CD that explains the background stories behind the writing of some of the songs.
I’m very curious though about the meaning of one of the CD’s very catchy songs called ‘About Love’. Could you post some insight here Steve?
1. Do you make inference to the LHC (Large Hadron Colider) re: ‘particles to fix the mess’?
2. What are:
a) ‘benefits the dead contest’?
b) ‘belies up with the goods’?
c) ‘can’t win if you have to draw lines’?
Thanks,
John

It is not a hard thing to respond to Steve’s request for feedback on his new tour and CD.
I attended his St. Catharine’s concert in Ontario just over a week ago. Without any hesitation I can enthusiastically say it was a brilliant evening in all respects.
The Church needs all the sustenance it can get; I can think of few sources that rival the nutrition that Steve and his world-class band provide.
Each player elevates, if that is possible, Steve’s superbly crafted songs and interpretations. Look and listen anywhere on the stage, you’ll find superior professionalism and humble excellence on each chair.
The new CD has been in heavy rotation in our family playlist. On it Steve channels the sounds of Fogelberg and Cockburn among other luminaries; not too shabby!!
Fantastic work Steve; on the stage and in the studio. Many thanks to you and your musical collaborators.
Peace.

Hi Steve,
Thank you for your fantastic music! I want to inquire especially about sheet music for your songs. It seems that only two song books are currently available, for newer albums. I’m looking for some older stuff; most specifically right now I’m looking for music for “Holy Lord”. So what is the story? The only thing I could find was a few internet references to a book ” the music of Steve Bell” which appears to be unavailable. Any chance this book will make a return appearance, or that your adoring fans will soon have some other access to sheet music?

I had tears in my eyes when you sang Jenny’s Song and I am wondering how to find it. I have a Jenny in my life that I would love for her to hear it.
Thanks agan for a wonderful concert. IIt was one of those nights for me that lets me know that I am on the right path and must continue forward with love and faith.
My God continue to bless you.

HI Steve,
I posted this in response to your album notes on the Kindness CD. Realized there may be a better chance of a reply to our question if it is posted here.
Thanks for the CDs! They just arrived today. Only had time to listen to the first eight songs or so.Very much enjoyed that and look forward to listening to it all many times over. Especially enjoyed “In Billy’s Wake”, of course. Still amazed at how you wove the themes of Jessie’s article into so few words.By the way, are you at liberty to tell us who Jim and Rachael Van Eerden are and/or where they live. Could be long lost relatives.Interesting that they appear on the same CD as the song based on Jessie’s article, though we know of no connection. Not a very common name. Anyways, blessings on your tour.

Hi Steve::
I just wanted to tell you what a thrill it was to meet you today (in the Toronto Airport). I have to say, I was a bit starstruck and couldn’t say very much.
Thank you for the copy of your new CD! I’m listening to it while I write this – it’s wonderful to have new music of yours to listen to. I really have practically worn the others out!
I reach for your music often because it sings to me in more ways than just via my ears – it soothes, uplifts, inspires, and edifies me.
I love the title name and the quote on the inner cover of the CD you gave me – I was just saying to my best friend on the way to the airport that I have been praying that I may have a faith that never misrepresents God, that He would correct me when I do, that it would be an infectious faith, and that it would be one that helps to reclaim the good name “Christian”. I think our faith has been hijacked in many ways, but it was always supposed to be about love – as your song so beautifully says.
I’m a Community Health Nurse in a First Nation community, and see everyday some of the results of that hijacking and it breaks my heart. I’m also working on my MSW in order to take my work to the next level in helping to bring some measure of healing to the people I work with. I hope that in the midst of my work, people sense God’s love for them.
May that be what I’m someday remembered for – that I loved well.
Thanks for your music and the encouragement it is to me. It really is a beautiful sound of inspired worship and a blessing to me.
Sincerely,
Mary

Hi Steve,
….just got back from your concert in Cambridge….loved it! Thank you.
BTW what is the name of the singer songwriter you mentioned….the one who wrote the “father / son” song?
The song “Feeling Groovy” brought back happy memories for me. When I was in high school, my best friend and I made an artsy “film strip” of that song… (for Mass Media class!) with animation and all…too funny..and yes it was a long time ago…..

I wonder if modern singers realize how much audiences read lips. It is extremely difficult to hear the words when mikes are held up to the singers lips. Surely there must be a way to hold the mike down so people can see the lips and hear the words. Beautiful songs can only be appreciated if one can actually hear the worda and thus receive the message. Please Steve!

HI Steve,
Very much looking forward to your CD release, especially to hear In Billy’s Wake. Also sad to hear about your guitar. Hope the Guitar Whisperer can work his magic. A while back I had looked on your website and there was a concert planned for Abbotsford, I thought. I see that is no longer on the list. I am sure there are good reasons for that, but it is too bad. I guess we’ll have to make the trip out to Richmond. Actually there are tentative plans to go down and visit Jessie and Mike over Spring Break, so it may not work out at all. Will keep checking for the CD to be released.
Blessings on the tour.

Hi Steve! Loved your concert last night, here in Thunder Bay. My sisters, my mom and I had our 10-year anniversary Steve Bell concert night and we were thrilled that it was a ‘Steve on a Stool’ concert. As usual, you were able to lift our spirits and remind us to be aware and mindful of what we do on a daily basis. Your stories are soulful, uplifting and often quite funny. I always feel a little lighter whenever I leave one of your concerts. Your broken guitar (and soul) turned into a wonderful story that everyone will remember. You’ll have to keep us posted on the recovery. Thank you for blessing us with your many gifts.

Thanks for the concert in Thunder Bay last night. In spite of grieving the loss of the use of your guitar, you sang with great gusto and strength. I love the clear projection of words and notes, and the crisp “ping” of the strings.
I was empathizing with you about the guitar. Here’s my “Broken Guitar” story.
I’ve had three guitars. The first was a hand me down of a cheap learners version in 1968, a few months after I learned of the Lord’s love for me. It was hard to learn on and play on due to the high bridge. A workman at the church that housed the Bible School I attended the following year, kindly lowered the bridge and restrung it with nylon strings.
Eventually I got a new Yamaha classical in Winnipeg. It was housed in a vinyl case. A mistake!
Someone fell on it and broke the neck. My husband did a fiberglass repair that lasted well over years, but it was hard to tune. Eventually the repair let loose, so the guitar stood unused, until a fellow “worker in wood” took it on as a project and beautifully restored the neck. The guitar is still in use.
In the intervening time, I got another Yamaha with funds given to me from our church ladies mission group. This time with a solid wooden case.
I praise God that he cares not only for we, who are instruments in his hands, but also for the instruments he puts into our hands. “Jesus uses broken things!”

We all want to be a savior
But we know there’s only one true God
We all want to have that healing power
To cure cancer, take a pain, heal our mom
The truth is that the jobs been taken
By one whos reach surpasses yours and mine
And though sometimes we don’t know where to find Him
The Word says – seek me – and you’ll surely find:
You shall find a loving God
A mender of broken hearts
A healer of every pain
Strength beyond the toughest day
An outlook that can change the world
A refuge in the darkest storm
The joy of a blissful soul
Courage to meet tomorrows goal
The knowledge that there’s more than this
Because you’re one of His
He loves you and you are one of His

Blessed By a Burden the Beautiful Beyond
I have been blessed by a burden
But I see the beautiful beyond
Satan’s grasp has loosened
Now Jesus is holding on
Crimson tides were rising
On that life that held me down
But I’ve been blessed by a burden
And now I see the beautiful beyond
Funny how that road can twist
As lives become unwound
Childs dreams are broken
And the grown-ups aren’t around
We cling to things that get us through
Though we know it can’t be right
And I’ve been blessed by a burden
I’ll tell you so tonight
The way I was I can’t explain
It happened long ago
A little girl she lost all hope
Her heart was hardened so
The blame I know I cannot place
Its simply not my job
I was blessed by a burden
Now I see the beautiful beyond
Sometimes it takes a day or two
Sometimes it takes a life
What challenges are placed on us
The measure of our strife
Some dig the hole they’re falling in
Some walk around I know
But when you’re blessed by a burden somtimes the gettin’ there is slow
The length of time – it matters not
The outcome is what does
The greatest burdens buried deep cannot withstand His love
He whittles them away until those burdens change their form
And you are left with a blessing and you see the beautiful beyond
Yes I was blessed by a burden but I see the beautiful beyond
Satans grasp has loosened – now Jesus is holding on
The crimson tides were rising on that life that held me down
I was blessed by a burden but now I see His beautiful beyond
Yes I was blessed by a burden…now I see His beautiful beyond

This song is called “Wandering Spirit” and I wrote it about a wonderful man named Alvin Elif Constant. He was one of Canada’s finest artists and a true disciple of Christ. He died on a cold winter’s day on the streets of Calgary. He was known by family and friends as Wandering Spirit.
ALVIN ELIF CONSTANT – WANDERING SPIRIT
Wandering Spirit Wandering Spirit
Where do you wander today?
Wandering Spirit Wandering Spirit
Have you found a place to stay?
THERE’S A SPECIAL PLACE IN HEAVEN
FOR AN ARTIST AND HIS BRUSH
FULL OF LANDSCAPES SO BEAUTIFUL
WITH FORRESTS DEEP AND LUSH
WHERE THERE’S ALWAYS TIME
TO PAINT AND DRAW
AND COLORS OH SO GRAND
LOVE IS SHOWN IN EVERY STROKE
AS IF BY GOD’S OWN HAND
NEVER DOES A TEAR ROLL DOWN
SUCH JOY THEY NEVER KNEW
FOR WHEN GOD BRINGS THEM HOME
TO HIM
HIS PEACE IS WHAT THEY VIEW
Wandering Spirit Wandering Spirit
Where do you wander today?
Wandering Spirit Wandering Spirit
Have you found a place to stay?
HAS GOD PUT YOU IN CHARGE OF THE RISING SUN
DID YOU PAINT THE MIDNIGHT MOON?
DO YOU SIT AT THE CREST OF THE WAVES AS THEY CRASH
ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON?
DO YOU SKETCH OUT THE STARS AS THEY LIGHT UP THE SKY
DO YOU PAINT THE ANGELS WINGS
HAVE YOU DRAWN OUT THE DETAILS OF THE FALLEN SNOW
WHEN IT MELTS AND TURNS TO SPRING
Wandering Spirit Wandering Spirit
We know where you’re at today
Wandering Spirit Wandering Spirit
In God’s special place you’ll stay

I Am Who I am
I’ve always had a little voice inside me saying…..
I am who I am – I am one of a kind
Intricately made originally designed
I am abundantly grateful and eternally blessed
Old things have passed away – I’m alive again at last
I’ve been pardoned of transgressions, forgiven of sins
I’ve been gifted and received a thousand more amens
But this world’s heart keeps beating a rhythm I don’t know
So I’ll wait for His return my candle still aglow
Well I grew up in a little hick town, 200 miles north from the city’s streets and sounds
Where my daddy worked hard in the fields all day, we were kinda on our own when it came time to play
Where shine meant booze and light meant fire – I was smokin’ by 13 sinking deep in mud and mire
Oh my grandma was a roller and she met the Holy Ghost
She planted me a seed but then she moved down to the coast
Well life went on full of heartache and despair – I was living life full out, thick in sin without a care
I was searching for good soil, I was reaching for a thread
Then I watched 100 Huntley Street and slowly bowed my head
Now life is good but Jesus is best – He used old David Mainse to speak triumph in my mess
And the words He spoke are the same now as then
But it’s not just for me – its meant for all the nations men
It went something like…..

THE EMMAUS ROAD
Did you take the Emmaus road today?
Did you travel along life’s lane?
Discussing things that might have been,
Your face downcast with pain
Doubt was circling around your hope right then,
When you came upon a friend
Who spoke the truth of Scriptures
And your heart began to mend
The Lord has risen!
Yes it is true
The Lord has risen!
Casting light upon His view
You made that seventh mile
And the town was in your sight
The Comfort seemed to be moving on
So you urged, “Please stay the night!”
Later sitting at the table
When blessings were given out
He took the bread and broke it
Then you knew without a doubt
The Lord has risen!
Yes it is true
The Lord has risen!
Casting Light upon His view
Amazed with joy you raced right back
The distance seemed but a leap
Your eyes were fully opened now
His own He’d guide and keep
You assembled together with the rest
Sharing all that He had told
Again He stood amongst you all
His words more precious than gold
The Lord is risen!
The law fulfilled!
The Lord is risen
Sending all that God has willed
He led you from the place you were at
He lifted His hands up high
Poured blessings upon you then
As He ascended into the sky
Let us have great joy as we worship him
Let us stay within His walls
Giving all the glory to God above
‘Til He returns to us and calls
The Lord is risen
Yes it is true
The Lord is risen
Casting light upon His view
The Lord is risen
The law fulfilled
The Lord is risen
Bringing all that God has willed

And He said – Don’t pray to be seen by men
And He said – Go to that quiet place instead
For our Father knows every need before
When we ask Him He opens up that door
Don’t have to go on and on son
This is how it’s done…
Abba God in heaven you are
Holy is your name high above the stars
Your kingdom is here
Your will is being done
Earth will be like heaven through your righteous holy son, righteous holy son
We pray on this day for our manna from above
Forgive us our sins – let us show our neighbors love, show our neighbors love
Lead us from all wrong, bring us nearer to you still
For your kingdom is the glory – let your power be our will, power be our will
And he said…

Dear Steve:
I just finished reading your letter sent to my wife Laura and I. We are impressed with your new music and even more impressed with your courage to keep going even though you have had so many problems over the past year. Like so many others we too have had to reassess our financial commitments and had actually decided to stop supporting your ministry. HOWEVER, your courage and renewed creativeness have inspired us to continue our support for at least another year. We, and a group of our friends will also be in the audience at Grace Point Church in Edmonton on January 30th. Our love and our prayers are with you and your family, Doug and Laura

I was pleasantly surprised to see Steve on Hour of Power today. Whow !! I do wish they would have given you a wee bit more “air time>” A more informative intro would have added so much. Regardless,….it was great to see Steve perform at that “venue.” Thanks.

You are an amazing singer with a love for Christ that flows from you.
Thank you and I pray you have a Christ filled Christmas.

Hi, Steve,
I was playing this link below for a friend of mine, and she suggested I share it with you. You might like it, I agree. It’s my brother, Nestor’s, noodling on the banjo, working out a piece our niece asked him to play for her wedding, “Come, Thou, Fount of Every Blessing”. He posts on a site called banjohangout.org, as you see in the link, and he
actually posted the wedding take, which was quite different as an accompaniment, of course.
I hope you don’t mind my sending it through here. My email’s been having difficulties. I can still receive but I can’t send, for some reason. I’m hoping they correct it soon…

Thanks Steve for a great concert last night. You are very ‘kind’. I really appreciate that.
Our daughter bought ‘Devotion” last night and we’ve been blessed by it today.
Hope your arm keeps healing. I was playing guitar a lot more last year and my elbow gave me problems too.
We’re praying for it.
(Maybe find a Shaklee distributor and get onto some of their products. They’ve helped me. Sorry for the ad. )

Thanks for a wonderful concert last night in Bethany. I was espeacially touched by your story and music by Byron your friend. My uncle was an alcoholic and lived in Prince Rupert B.C. in a small community far far away from family. He died a few years ago alone. He always told my Mom he felt Jesus near. When we went for his remains I was touched by the community of people who struggle with addictions. The line between them and us was also erased by love.
Thanks again Steve and blessings as you follow our Lord where He takes you.

Hello Steve, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your music and songs. Your music and the way you sing are inspiring for me and it just calms me down. I deal with anxiety and stress in my life and your style of singing and the text of your songs has often helped me through those times. Just a big thank you to you and for letting God use your voice to talk to me. May God bless you and your ministry!

Many thanks to God for His work in your life and family. My husband and I caught the CTS showing of your 2008 concert with the ESO on Friday night and recorded what we could, to view later. I have been re-playing “Burning Ember” for most of today, as I work. Such a beautiful recording – all of it, and that song, in particular, has really blessed me as I love Jesus so much, am a singer and songwriter and have just had thyroid cancer surgery. They got it all – thank God – but I cannot sing (it’s been almost 4 weeks). I’m singing in my heart, along with you.
God bless you and yours. You are a blessing.
In Jesus,
Susan

Just attended your concert in Kenora. Enjoyed tremendously. Haven’t seen you since FF when you sang with Susan and Brent (friends and students of ours). I completely agreed at your comment about how cruel we Christians can be. And I think we can hold to our beliefs and still show kindness. I now have some new music. If CDs wore out the first one would be. Thanks for the music. BTW way, have you ever thought to collaborate with Larry Kunkel-he is such a great musician, too. And wrecks his guitar hands painting to keep his family fed. Know all about it. My mother was a musician who knew what it was like to have to make ends meet. She entertained in the 60′s and 70′s in Wpg.
God bless you in your walk!!!! Wendy and David

Thanks, Steve, for your article on Keeping Christ in Halloween… the Lord really dealt with me on this a few years ago. I felt strongly convicted about hiding in my dark basement when all of my neighbors were coming to my door.
It struck me that this is the one day of the year that I am completely welcome to knock on anyone’s door and they do the same at my home. What a great, fun and nonthreatening way to meet all my neighbors!
How would Jesus show love on a day like this? I’ve decided to be a friendly & generous face at the door & try to bless my community rather than hide from them. I grew up in a “Halloween is the Devil’s holiday” home and found it a challenge to participate at first, but I feel such freedom & peace in this and I am confident that I’m doing what Jesus wants me to.
I don’t want unbelievers to see me as “holier than thou” but as a real person whose real faith changes my attitude and behavior.
I haven’t found much reinforcement for my thoughts in my evangelical community/church, but I pray that our view will change on this.

Hello Steve:
First, I have to say that this is awesome to be able to write you on your website! I am a singer-songwriter myself, in early stages
and I TRULY admire you and your incredible music.
I am interested in having my brother sing Burning Ember at my wedding this coming June. I’m just wondering whether I can buy the sheet music for it from you. I see that you have two books, but Burning Ember isn’t it either of them
.
Reply from Steve: Sorry Sarah. We don’t have sheet music for that one
Reply from Steve: sorry Sarah. We don’t have sheet music available for that one. Hope he can figure it out though. I’d be totally honored that my song was used.
Thanks for your time and thanks for inspiring.

I’m just starting a blog – just a place for me to document my “thousand gratitudes” and my journey.
“Here By the Water” is kind of the foundation or theme for the blog. I’m wondering if I could attach a player to it with “Here by the Water” on it – or with a sampling of your music. Something like the “music player” on your download page.
Thanks for considering it.

You music transcends generations and I look forward to introducing others to your music!! I have a burning question: are you a fan of the musician Martin Sexton? I thought that your style reminded me of him!
reply from Steve: I loooove Martin Sexton.

Hi Steve,
I just want to thank you for the ministry you’ve had in the lives of my wife and I. Started listening in grade 12 (1994) to Deep Calls to Deep. Since then your music has been a part of our lives. After asking Becky to marry me we just held one another and listened to Deep Calls to Deep (I had just planned one or two songs… but we made it all the way through). We brought you to Africa, BC, and now Quebec. We’ve bought some of your CDs – twice. Our house got broken into and they took several, which were replaced. Comfort my people was in our inexpensive CD player and the thief left it. We only lost the CD case and jacket. We thought about getting you for a concert for our wedding. I knew your cousin, Jeff, from College. For the longest time I wanted to thank you for your God-centered music. Can’t wait to sing many of your songs with the Choir in heaven.
One question. On one of your advertising CDs you mentioned that you are a Christian artist and that you didn’t like how Christian music was so much like propaganda, pushing their views on non-christians. My thought is that people like Bruce Cobern (spelling?) push their views all the time and it is art. Art has an edge. True art is more than pretty pictures you hang on your wall. Few people hang actual art on the wall because it shouts at them too loudly. So I think there is room for Christian artists to propagate the cause of Christ… to shout about the problems in society that need changing… to seek to bring real change in a world that needs saving.
Blessings,
DAvid.

We have been going through some stressful times and the words to your songs (which remind me of the Psalms) have helped to point me to God and truth and to remind me that others understand. The soothing sounds of your music and voice have been used by God to minister to me. God is faithful!
Thank you, Steve and thank you, Nanci for encouraging, supporting and loving Steve to be who he is and enabling him to use his gifts in this way to serve the body and those who will join the body of Christ.

Hi Steve,
I am wondering what you think about a Christian listening to grooveshark. It sounds legal… but only to listen to the music streamed… It must have been uploaded at sometime… Could you help ease my conscience? I have listened to your new devotion album on it. it is one of the few that I don’t own (yet). Do I owe you money for listening to it (I think it has been about 8 or 9 times)?

steve, from your blog: it was impossible to please God without loving what God loves, caused a social revolution and eventually undermined an empire that kept millions of lives in abject misery for the benefit of a few hundred elite families.
Perhaps, given the acceleration of environmental and human tragedy that seems to be upon us, this is a good time for Christians to reflect on the qualities that won them their favour in the first place: Who is God? Who and what does God love? What does it look like for us to image the one whose self-donation won us freedom from our own destructive impulses; whose empathy for our miseries is unquenchable?
When I stop long enough to reflect on these questions, I find that gratitude swells in my soul, weariness recedes and energetic empathy re-emerges
THERE IN LIES A SONG YOU NEED TO PEN… you need to write it again, only to music. — hugs and prayers, sb

I just wanted you to know that I burst into spontaneous song and harmonize with your devotion music. It also gets me dancing. The Lord is blessing your music and it is bearing praise fruit from my lips. I thank you for your ministry and hope these few words bring you encouragement.

Hi, Steve. I just wanted to tell you about a cool thing that happened this morning. There’s a lady who comes to our church (St. Peter’s Comox) who has altzheimer’s or something. She mostly sits there with a blank face and seems lost. I always feel so bad for her. Anyway, we always sing your Holy Holy as we prepare for communion and this morning I noticed that she was singing along. She knew the words and the rhythm, atleast. I wasn’t close enough to hear her, but her face was lit up as she mouthed the words. My heart swelled when I saw that. How wonderful that she has become so familiar with something that she can sing it all, and obviously the music you wrote inspires her to respond…and how appropriate that the one thing she really participates in is real worship of our awesome God. Just thought you’d like to hear about that.

Hi Steve! I’m so glad to hear your arm is healing up!!! I hope it is totally well soon and you can get back to doing that thing you love.
I was just listening to your CD in my car, and esp touched by the songs, Go and sin no more, and Behold what you are, become what you receive…, Was told from within to listen and I’d get an answer to some questions, and that last song came on the CD ya.
Behold what you are!
Please be careful of your arm: take the time to heal it. God works in mysterious ways and this might be a way of getting you to rest and be quieter for a bit, or to see life from the perspective of someone without a guitar in his hand for several weeks!!
I just spent a year off work with health issues (covering up spiritual and emotional issues), and also am healing from whiplash and arm problems, so I know whereof I speak! I pray you’ll heal up soon!
I am the dark-haired, bespectacled Rachel from Regina who always claims to be recording a CD – NEXT YEAR! Well still haven’t done that, but I can finally say that I performed my original songs for 40 minutes on Friday at a local restaurant, for a fundraiser for my friend to build a pottery studio. It’s a great start! God is sending me a lot of healpers and nudges in the creative directions (art, too). This friend was sitting on the beach at my birthday party, and suddenly had the thought, Rachel needs to sing and play!!! So she told me so and I said, OK then!
It was fun even though I made a lot of mistakes because I was nervous. After 10 min or so I was ok
Three other amazing local singer/songwriters also performed.
You have inspired me in singing and writing and playing and sharing my faith, Steve. Thank you so much. On Friday, I told stories like you do
and was thinking of you when I was planning how to do it, b/c I always enjoy your shows so much. Thank you again for sharing your gifts. love and God’s continual blessings, Rachel

Hey Steve. My wife Annette and i have been following your ministry for quite some time now and i just want to let you know that we love you :0) It’s pretty cool to have you as a brother in Christ.
A short while ago, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy (complete removal) of one breast. It was a hard time but i found myself singing some of your songs over and over for encouragement.
She’s doing awesome by the way :0)
I just led worship at my church and used one of your songs “Wings of an Eagle” and was happy to find most people knew it.
I noticed you may be coming to Breakforth in Edmonton. Is that still your plan? I’d love to see you there. I’ve been volunteering for the last few years and will do so this year too so maybe i’ll even be able to meet you if things work out that way.
Later :0)

Hi Steve! The Lord wanted me to share a song He has given me,there is a melody as well but here are the lyrics..
T o Breathe
To know there is love
Much greater than I
A sense of drawing near
Not wanting to hide
To stand on a promise
The cross holds so dear
His life in me
His wanting to share
Chorus 1
To breathe in this love
I am so filled
To breathe, to be
In the middle of His will
To breathe in this love
I am so filled
To breathe, to be
In the middle of His will
To belive in a hope
Not begun in man
To walk forward each step
Placed by faith in His plan
His light in the darkness
Shines a straight path
Ground that is solid
A way that will last
Chorus 2
To breathe in this hope
Raises me from despair
To breathe, in me
Of the One who so cares
To breathe in this hope
Raises me from despair
To breathe,in me
Of the One who so cares
To keep my eyes on
My Savior His faith
Not pulled by distractions
Or moving with haste
To wait and be still
For that day
When with Him I’ll go
And we’ll fly away
Chorus 3
To breathe in this faith
To receive of Him so
To breathe, you see
Of His truth that is known
To breathe in this faith
To receive of Him so
To breathe,you see
Of His truth that is told
Blessings to you and yours,
Laurie

Hi Steve! It’s good to read that you are slowly
recovering. I’m 75 and it immediately comes to
mind that you should consider hiring another
guitarist as your gifts are primarily in writing inspirational music and singing. If it’s difficult for you to do all three…two out of three would be great. Perhaps, we’re speaking out of turn in that you may compose your music while singing and laying on your guitar. By all means continue with that and when you perform train a guitarist to accompany you while you sing. We love you Steve and want the best for you and from experience we’ve learned as we mature and experience health problems, we have to adjust our lives to deal with them. You’ve discovered that already.
Create the songs with you and your guitar and get someone else to play the guitar while you sing at your ferformances. Nobody would think think the less of you. The Bible says that two are better than one. Do two instead of three. That’s not an accurate Bible
interpretation but we trust you get our drift.
Keep on..keeping on, Steve. You are truly gifted by the Lord and are doing his will.
We see your Uncle weekly at Grant and occasionally your father. Hey! Why not try
our suggestiions at Grant some Sunday.
We’ve heard some great guitarists as well as a basist that blows our minds.
Food for thought. We’re all together to help each other in His Kingdom.
Regards, Bill & Carole.

Hi|! I’m Kaela as you read from over there and me and my dad were just sitting at the piano listening to your album Sons and Daughters trying to figure out how some of the songs went. I like to play guitar and i was hoping to learn Getting Ready For Glory by Carolyn Arends on the guitar and i searched the interent but couldn’t find the chords for that song so i was wondering if you could send me the chords. That would be awesome thanks, and if not we can probably just buy a book in the store that has them. Thanks for your time and hope you have an awesome day!!

I have been away from Winnipeg for 2 1/2 years now – 1 1/2 in Churchill MB working and now taking up residency in Kingston ON. Your music always reminds me of concerts in Winnipeg – I first saw you when I brought my Foster Girls to the Firehall on Sunday nights. You and now Sarah are a joy to listen to and get me through the “homesick” moments reminding me we have a greater home to look forward to. Bleesings to you and family – hopefully you will come to Kingston – Great Music City -

Hi Steve, driving home last night in the van with all the kids. I put in the c.d. unlikely icon what a calming effect it had on the whole family. We haven’t heard that one in years, everyone was humming along, it was one of those rare moments, an appropriate way to end a Sunday praising God reminding me of simpler times and again what’s inportant.. Just wondering if you still play with those guys? You were good together, I still picture you just sittin around the kitchen table with them. Have a good simple summer hopefully resting in Him!

Steve,
Your music & your lyrics have been a wonderful inspiration to my family & I for many years.
Times we travell together on long trips, your songs & story’s help to lift us all to a joyfull focus on “the sheppard of life”.
Your songs continue to play in the praise and worship “inner player” of our spirits.
Oh yes…Steve, that would of course only be when we are away from access to real electronics & playing your awesome recordings…
When I seek inspiration in God’s country for my work, “I’ll build an alter to praise him” often becomes my resounding theme, lyrics and song.
Thanks for following your heart Steve. And I always appreciate your storys too.
God bless

What a blessing it was to have you here in Sacramemto! My favorite song is “Ever Present Need ” on “Solace.” Can you please tell me where I can find the original poem by St Francis on which the lyrics were based? Also who sings “Pass Through the Fire” on the “Can God Be Trusted” CD also in Solce? Your music is truly revelatory.

Hi Steve,
As I said to you at your last concert here, I love the profoundness and you depth of reading and learning.
I too am a voracious reader and always looking for some good “meat” to read. When you were here you mentioned (again) a book by a Greek Orthodox priest that you quoted from but I couldn’t write it down fast enough.
Could you tell me again his name and the book you referred to of his writings?
Many thanks and God Bless,

Thanks for coming to Comox Steve. I attended many a concert of yours in Calgary, but have now lived in Comox for 5 years, and was thrilled to see you were coming. It took me back about 15years to the earlier concerts I used to attend….just you and your guitar. I really appreciated your comments about the giving and receiving and about living our life gracefully. Often times we question our purpose, and want to make a difference in thiis world, but it is such a great reminder to know that a little act of kindness each day can make a “world of a difference.” Thanks again.

first time I’ve seen you perform was last night in victoria, (along with my three month old who thankfully stayed relatively quiet) and wow! you are a first class musician and a wonderful story teller. i’ve been listening to you for years and have appreciated your songs so much (as well as the fact you’re from winnipeg, which is where my parents are from). now my three year old listens to you at home and in the car and you’re his first choice when I ask him what we should listen to
i hope you come back out to the coast again soon so I can bring him. all the best recovering from your repetitive strain injury—hopefully the next two months will be a much needed time of rest.

Helloooooo Steve! THANK YOU for a most wonderful concert last night at tthe Port theatre in Nanaimo … In my humble opinion the best show I have ever seen you do! So many wonderful songs and stories… the one about kenny really touched me as I have a son with Down Syndrome and nobody wants to “see him” either. I would really like to know the playlist as I liked the songs but some i did not get the names of… especially the one about Absolam .. I think you said it was done by somenone else so maybe it is not in your library of tunes. I would llike to purchase some more but would like some that I he3ard last night. In closing I would like to thank you for also being a wonderful preacher … I know God used you and your stories and songs to touch my heart last night… Not that I don’t enjoy Sabbath service and worship time but if it could be like one of your concerts with a little music and a little preaching mixed together it would make it even better instead of straight music then straight prreaching …. you know what I mean .. thanks again for such a pleasant evening … sigrid foster

Hi, this is Jeff the ‘web-guy’. I have looked into your problem, it seems that this is a possibility if you have a comma after your last recipients email in the recipient field. There is no virus of any sort, it’s just that the server got confused and thought that you were trying to send to a “anonymous” email. Your message would have been sent as it should have been to your valid recipient email address. Thanks for giving me a heads up on this, I will see if I can make this a bit smoother for others as well. ~ Jeff

Steve, I don’t know if this is the right place to send this, but I’m sure Jeff can weed it out, if it isn’t. I just sent one of your e-cards, and I got the notice that it was sent, but then I got one that was blank, but sent by anonymous@signpostmusic.info . Is this some spam/virus from someone who grabbed your domain name, or some transitional email of some kind, or what? Have Jeff look into it, then if you want, remove this note.

I was singing at a recital this past weekend and a lady came up to me, she knew i was a christian from the song i sang at the recital the year before. She was very impressed with my songs and she recommended I contact you. She said something along the lines of you help young people with there music. I am not really sure what she meant by that, but i figured i had nothing to lose. So i am asking if you do anything like that? I am a 16 your old girl who lives in Edmonton Alberta I compose my own songs, and play guitar as well a few other instruments. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi Steve,

We loved your concert. THANK YOU.
How do I find the song about your mother. Mine passed away a little over a year ago. She was an amazing, praying, serving, loving lady.

Hey Steve and the Signpost gang, I trust this finds you all well. We remain” patiently waiting for you” to find it feasible and convenient to make your way to upstate New York in the fall. I’ve been involved with sporadic conversation with Dave these past several months and we all are certainly well aware of how busy you are, and that’s a good thing. Godspeed on your upcoming trip to the Holy Land. Did you ever find that book I sent by Christopher Moore? Look forward to seeing you again. It’s always a delight and an enormous blessing to have you here. Blessings, Lane

Hi Steve,
It was very nice to meet you at the Concordia Annual Gala Dinner. I especially loved hearing you sing. Rob had introduced me to your music a decade ago. It was an honour to hear it in person. Thank you. I would also like to thank you for the lovely CDs that you gifted us. I have been listening to them in my studio as I work. I find them very calming and inspiring.

My husband and I attended the concert at St. Paul’s Anglican in Calgary last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to have it in such an intimate setting, and we decided we like the solo concerts the best. Steve, thanks for using your gifts to minister to the Body – your voice and your guitar playing are incredible. Thanks for sharing your stories – for the humor and for being so honest about life with its ups and downs. We left feeling encouraged and strenthened, and closer to each other and to God. We are going to give a donation to support your ministry and will be praying for your recovery and continued protection on your life, family and ministry.

Hi Steve,
My husband and I were in Jarvis last night. We brought a close friend who lives in Jarvis and her daughter. The Lord used you to bless them by the things you shared and the songs you sung. The Spirit in you was ministering to their questions and needs. God bless you as you follow HIM.

Hi Steve,
I am haunted by the beautiful melody of one of your new songs we heard you do in Dekalb. My wife remembered some details of your story leading up to it. It was inspired by your reading of a book on St. Francis of Assisi. You made a comment about the tune maybe taking a few hearings to catch on. On the contrary, I was hooked immediately. Hope we are remembering accurately. I missed the title and am anxious to know if and when it might be available. I got the impression you hadn’t recorded it yet. Can You help me out?
Thanks, and God Bless!

Steve – Wow!
My sisters, neice and I attended your concert last night at Grace Anglican Church in Brantford. This is the first time my 18 year old neice has seen you; she is now a fan. It was wonderful to see you on a much more intimate setting again. Your music and stories were just as I remembered – right from the heart. What a nice touch; coming into the church with your precious grandchildren in your arms, and your family in attendance. We are thriilled that you came back to Brantford, Ontario after so many years.
. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for singing my request – Wings of An Eagle.
We also attended your concert iin December with the Kitchener Symphony – It was amazing. Did you know that Brantford also has a sympany? Would you consider approaching them with the idea of a 2010 Christmas Concert at our wonderful Sanderson Centrre?
I have purchased many of your CD’s over the years. Recently I purchased 2 Devotions CD’s online. One will be a gift to my sister for her birthday. Beautiful music – worthy of a Juno.
Hope your recovery from your upcomning surgery is quick and easy. I will keep you in my prayers.
You are a gift from God.

I am enjoying your new site. It`s informative, and when I take time to read the blogs I am encouraged. Thank-you for your work Steve. I`m so glad that you come to us without pretense and just share your thoughts from your heart in simplicity. This is a great gift.
In case you`re ever in or passing through Saskatchewan and need a place to rest, my family and I would be glad to have you and Nanci stay at our retreat… we call it Diamond Willow Retreat. There`s some info on our website. We are south of Maple Creek SK and the beautiful Cypress Hills.
Thanks again and good luck on the upcoming tour.

Hi Steve,
I met a singer by the name of Jason Black http://www.jasonblacklive.com. I think the two of you should meet in the future. Go to his website and watch listen to his testimony on video. I can hear the 2 of you on the symphony stage. When are you coming back to California?

Devotion is always on my 5 CD changer. It is my very favourite of yours. I was not at all surprised to know it was nominated.
Feed us Lord. The great backup singers add spice and sparkly interest. Sweet violins.Your unique, ever gentle voice is always my invitation to prayer in music. Singing all your songs over the years has contributed hugely to my matter-of-factness about my Jesus, my Creator, a calm and a confidence that no matter what happens I am loved and supported. I thank you for being my teacher/preacher in music. You and Jon Buller and Stuart McKnight I get to enjoy. Lucky me. I look forward to a live concert again. I will be in Wpg. May 22 to June 5 or 6 with my High School sweetheart at our Vincen tMassey reunion and will of course check the website for your shows, if not we just might attend your church.Power to you, blessings and healing for your arm.

Steve, I wish I could put into words what I experience every time I listen to Moon over Birkenau. The first time I listened to it I was overwhelmed with weeping from deep in my spirit. It touched something deep inside of me and moved me beyond tears. It may well be the most beautiful, most moving, most profoudnd piece of music I have ever heard. Each time I listen I think, ” Words unspoken, yet somehow heard.”
I have a deep love for Israel and the Jewish people and although I have never experienced Birkenau, I have vistied Israel and Yad Hashem twice. The memories will be with me always.
Thank you for sharing this gift from your heart.

We attended your concert in Saint John yesterday Steve and wanted you to know how enjoyable it was. We bought several cd’s and your DVD with the Edmonton Symphony and listened to that masterpiece tonight. Bravo Steve. I was amazed by how many people attending the concert had never heard of you before, but left delighted. We have met many times throughout the years and I always give thanks for you. I was a professional musician in the Band Branch of the Forces and am now Director of Music at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Saint John. Thanks for coming. Thanks for sharing your gifts. I pray God will continue to bless your ministry, keep you well and we look forward to more Symphony DVD’s. Wayne Richardson

Steve…
There is no way you’d remember the first time we met (many moons ago in New Brunswick) I’ve appreciated the integrity with which you served then and continue to serve as a “big name”
I’m currently Ministry Arts Director at Bethany College in Saskatchewan. As I travel about I sense that things are changing in terms of how we use (and sometimes abuse) music in the church. I’m convinced things will look very different in 5-10 years and I’m wondering what your thoughts are on the role that music will play in the Church of the future? What are some of the shifts on the horizon? How do we prepare our current crop of students for music and Arts ministry in 2015 or 2025?

Hi Steve, Awesome concert @ Kishwaukee Bible Church! You’ve been an inspiration for about 5 yrs. now. Drove down from Rockford with some dear friends and band mates for a wonderful Sunday evening – Great sound – great songs! Picked up the new cd – thanks for the chords & lyrics inside. Very moved by “Who Condemns You Now” – Great participation tune in “Praise The Father, Praise The Son”, and “Lorica” is even neater knowing the back story. My new favorite tune though was the new one you did after your story about getting away to a friend’s cabin & the restoration of your gift. I missed the name of it, and, when will it be available??? Absolutely love it! Must have it! Did Dave pass along the Awestruck cd? Just a gift of appreciation. Thanks for the super show & great memories – God Bless,

Dear Steve,
I was the lady with the English accent that left my husband’s car lights on in the parking lot in Leamington.
I was hurting very badly that night for my daughter who lives in PA. USA. Her husband is a sex addict and now almost 20 years later the two teenage children and her can take no more pain and are going to be moving on in their lives. A painful healing process.
Your music and little stories made my heart glad and touched me so incredably that it cannot really be described.. Thank you so much for your ministry through your music. God Bless you and all your family. Thanks, Maggie

Hi Steve,
I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your concert at Faith in St. Thomas. You probably don’t want to hear this but you know how a song sticks in your head for days and you can’t get rid of it? Well after the concert the song I couldn’t get rid of was ‘In a godda da vida’. You happened to mention it and I hadn’t thought about it in years. Thanks! Actually this week I went out and bought one of your CD’s (simple songs, I think it’s called) and have quite enjoyed it. You have a wonderful gift.
Thank you,

Hi Steve,
I was at your concert a couple weeks ago in Ottawa – wonderfully, lighthearted performance!
You had mentioned that there aren’t a lot of church type songs that celebrate the darker times of our lives. I’m not sure if you’ve ever heard the song called “Holy Darkness” (Dan Schutte) but its one my mom found when going through her own dark night of the soul, and as worship leader, was able to share it with our little church in Southern Alberta..
I think you’d like it, and I’d love to hear a version from you! No pressure.
You and your music are a blessing!

Dear Steve,
Congratulations on your Juno nomination. “Devotion” is moving and beautiful. The way you share yourself with so many people is amazing. You have a powerful gift of bringing people and God closer together. Over the years you have kindled a spark of hope and longing for God’s love with your story and your song within my soul.
“Who Condemns You Now?” especially stays with me right now – a tender union with Christ. Thank you so much. Peace, Marlene

Edmonton misses you! I have attended both concerts you have put on at our Winspear Center, and I’ve seen you at my Church (Beulah) as well. I keep hoping to see another Edmonton show on the horizon, but thus far I see Calgary and Banff, but no Edmonton. I hope we don’t have to wait too much longer for you again. Your shows bring such joy, so I can’t wait to see one again. Thanks for bringing the joy!

Hi Steve;
I had heard of you before but never been to one of your concerts until tonight here in Cornwall. Loved your music, your humour but most certainly what stands out to me most is your heart. Your compassion for the lost, forgotten and the less of our society. Thank you for bringing that message. I always say “there but for the grace of God go I”.
God Bless and looking forward to seeing you again. Will keep you in my prayers for your health and well being.

Steve – when you “have a moment to relax”
I just wanted to share my blog posts of songs, poems, chickenscratch with you. Sample:
Up in the town pulpit
while the pastor preached,
a little churchmouse
began to screech,
and the people paid attention
a little bit more,
to the distraction,
relief for the bored.
Up in the choir,
the swayers sang,
and the little churchmouse
began to scratch and play,
and people harkened to the notes
a little bit more,
to distinguish the commotion
‘neath the church floorboard.
Then the pastor stopped,
looked all around,
said, “Look what I have here:
a little churchmouse!”
Put it in his coat pocket,
reckoned with a grin,
said, “I’ll bring him more often
so you’ll listen in.”
..and he muttered,
“I feel for clergy in cathedrals,
’cause the floor’s cement.”

Hey from South Carolina! Just wanted to let you know what a blessing your ministry as been to me as of late. I bowed to Christ’s grace in the 70s. I’m coming out of a period of confusion over theological issues. I’m just beginning to understand how music has played into that. Your themes are passionate, compassionate, bone and marrow-real, and point to Christ. Listening to these songs have been for me a time of meditation, worship, and fellowship. My prayers for you, your team, and family for continued vision and strength.

Steve, just want to say how much I am looking forward to you coming to our church this March. I have tried for about three years, and due one thing or another it never came to pass. As a christian musician you have been such an encouragement. I lead P&W at our church every third Sunday, and use some of your songs quite regular. Once again thanks for your gift to us all, and look forward to seeing you on the 21st.

Hey Steve, Great Show! I saw you at the Charleswood United Church. Loved all the songs and the stories. I was the one who asked you about the guitar you were playing, thanks for your gracious response. Look forward to seeing you here again. Do you know when that might be, and are you going to do the Devotion album? That’s my new favorite of yours. I’ve been with you since Unlikely Icons, and it just keeps getting better. NO PRESSURE on the next album.
If you’re interested check out ‘Tone Rite’, it’s suppose to help age the guitar by resonating it.
Great talking to you.

Hey Steve,
Just wanted to shoot you a quick encouragement note: I was listening to Devotion again for the hundredth or so time, but first time in a month or two, and it just struck me how wonderfully musically satisfying you music is. Gone is the Light is especially enveloping, haunting, and absolutely gorgeous. I find myself listening mostly to jazz and classical for my best chances of true musical enjoyment, but you are one of only a few exceptions to that. As well, nods to Dave Z. for the consistently top-tier aural purity and fidelity of your recordings. They are truly among the finest sounding CDs I own. So there it is, candy for the ears, and of course, bread for the soul!

Hi Steve,
Asked my massage therapist about the pain you’ve been experiencing and here’s her take on things.
“Pain from shoulder to wrist, hot spots in triceps, elbow and forearm suggest to me some major soft tissue distress, vascular restrictions and possible nerve impingements if altered sensations are occurring. Much of the upper quadrant is involved in pain that is being noticed. From my experience, it is a good guarantee that a much greater area is actually being effected than this individual has tuned into.”
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers – Nancy

Just passing along a correction for your info. on the Comfort My People Album lyrics/sound page…. http://stevebell.com/music-video/discography/comfort-my-people-album/
It says “Early in 1998, after spending about ten years playing in various bands in the nightclub scene in Winnipeg, I had what I can only call an experience of the presence of God.” I think that should be 1988 right?
I received one of those early “Comfort My People” tapes when I was overseas in the early 1990s. I sure wish I could recall who gave it to me as I would have loved to thank them many times.
Just trying to be helpful.

How does one get comments back to finish them? Never mind, I can greet you twice! I am very excited to hear of your developing symphony. Very few these days undertake this intellectual marathon and, by people’s comments about your developing book the foremost longing is for words.
Speaking of books, are your aware of the existence of The Word Guild? They are Canadian Christian authors, editors, agents, readers etc.professional and amateur who have banded together to glorify God.
I can’t wait to hear your notes without words and read your words while listening to your music. Sincerely, Nicola

I’m a South African thats been a fan of your music since ” Burning Ember” was released.
Really love your music.
I do have a question though, which I was hoping you could clarify for me.
In an Easter entry you wrote this:
“Bruce Sanguin, in his extremely interesting book Darwin, Divinity and the Dance of the Cosmos, instructs that the new evolutionary sciences are beginning to understand that self-donation is one of the core principles of evolution.* Sanguin suggests that the cosmos has always known this intuitively, but became conscious of the principle on Easter weekend two thousand years ago, and that this consciousness is an ever-dawning one – from glory to glory!”
The references to the cosmos always knowing, or becoming conscious, seem to have conotations of panentheistic thought such as can be found in the works of Ken Wilber, and elsewhere.
Were your comments panentheistic in nature?
If not, would you mind expounding a bit more on the cosmos being conscious and to what degree you consider the creator and creation being seperate, or not.
Please note this is an honest question from a fan who would like to understand your thoughts on this better, and not some kind of attack/ trap!
Thanks in advance.

I wanted to tell you what a great pleasure it was to attend your concert in Brighton. I attended and met you through Steven Parsons. I must admit I had heard your name but had never heard your music. I just wanted to tell you that I feel God was given you such a remarkable talent, both vocally and instrumentally. Your words and music really touched my heart. You can be sure I will attend any future concerts in this area. I have just finished listening to your Christmas album for the umpteenth time. Steven gave it to me as a Christmas gift – I treasure it.
Steven also told me you are now a grandfather – congratulations. May God continue to bless you and your family in the coming year. Once again, thank you for sharing your gift of music with us.

Hello Steve and Signpost crew!
I am still revelling in the the wonder of the beuatifiul symphony of msuic which I heard IN K-W….just this moring I dwelt on these words of the wonderful C.S. Lewis….and thought of you and your symphony series…YES!…the main theme is there…thanks again for delivering!
ME
Think of It Like This
Dec 22
Let us suppose we possess parts of a novel or a symphony. Someone now brings us a newly discovered piece of the manuscript and says, ‘This is the missing part of the work. This is the chapter on which the whole plot of the novel really turned. This is the main theme of the symphony’. Our business would be to see whether the new passage, if admitted to the central place which the discoverer claimed for it, did actually illuminate all the parts we had already seen and “pull them together’. Nor should we be likely to go very far wrong. The new passage, if spurious, however attractive it looked at the first glance, would become harder and harder to reconcile with the rest of the work the longer we considered the matter. But if it were genuine then at every fresh hearing of the music or every fresh reading of the book, we should find it settling down, making itself more at home and eliciting significance from all sorts of details in the whole work which we had hither to neglected. Even though the new central chapter or main theme contained great difficulties in itself, we should still think it genuine provided that it continually removed difficulties elsewhere. Something like this we must do with the doctrine of the Incarnation. Here, instead of a symphony or a novel, we have the whole mass of our knowledge. The credibility will depend on the extent to which the doctrine, if accepted, can illuminate and integrate itself should be fully comprehensible. We believe that the sun is in the sky at midday in summer not because we can clearly see the sun (in fact, we cannot) but because we can see everything else.

I have been listening to the Christmas Radio and thoroughly enjoying it. It is a blessing as I work in my office. The only question I have is…Where can I get the Roy Salmond album, Christmas Night? The music is absolutely beautiful! Next to The Feast of Seasons, it will be my second most favourite! Keep up the inspiring work and please come back to Winnipeg next Christmas for the Symphony Sessions – missed it greatly this year!! God Bless, Steve.

hi steve,
after months of searching for the song “ride on king jesus” that was recorded on one of your earlier albums, i finally found the printed version; “the music of steve bell a songbook 1989 – 1995″
before i purchase it, i’m wondering if you would happen to know if the printed version is arranged exactly like the recorded version?
thanks,

Steve,
I want to Thank You for making my Mother a very happy person yesterday. Your performance at Seven Oaks Hospital made her day. She has been in the hospital for 2 months with vascular dementia and it has been very hard on her (and the family), your concert was an inspiration. Thank You and God Bless!

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the wonderful concert Sunday night in Regina. This was the fourth or fifth of your concerts that my wife and I have attended. They are always great. I enjoy your stories as much as the music. Your insights on the Christian life, grace and the Trinity were just what I needed to hear that night. Thank you. God Bless you and your family this Christmas and I will send a cheque to support your ministry cause. We look forward to your next CD release.
PS Your song dedication that evening, also one of my favourites, in honour of Nancy Bailey was directed at the couple who happened to be sitting right in front of us. There was an audible gasp at the mention of her name and the tears flowed as you sang the song. What a beautiful gift you gave someone that night. Thank you for that.

Hi Steve!! I was at your concert you just did in Regina and so so enjoyed it…as usual. I have to admit my mother and I now refer to ourselves as Steve Bell groupies!! Anyway, this concert I brought along my boyfriend and I am delighted to say that, in his exact words, he has now become a Steve Bell convert haha. He really enjoyed all of the encouraging stories you had to tell and expressed interest in a book you spoke of. But for the life of me I can’t remeber what it is called and am unable to find it!!! I know that it had something to do with St. Francis. Can you help me out with the name of this book?!
Thanks so much! Keep spreading your encouraging words!
God Bless!!

Approximately ninety minutes ago I returned home with my spouse from the Kitchener Symphony show.
It was a magnificent musical tour de force! It inspired, relaxed and nourished us in ways that shall remain for a long, long time.
What a rare moment is was indeed to witness the highest degree of professional musicianship from Steve, the band (without peer) and our own world class K-W symphony.
The Christmas song selection literally begged and cried out for another Christmas CD from Steve. Silent Night was divine and pristine, the Christmas medley was inspired and wonderfully cool.
John Michael Talbot’s “Magnificat” induced chills that may well take months to abate.
Truly, the entire program simply never sagged anywhere close to good – it was always far above that (with the exception of some technical audio difficulties early on – Steve and the band handled this with aplomb and didn’t falter in any way).
The packed house was testament to the inescapable reality that Steve and his band (an Orchestra wouldn’t hurt either) need to be heard many times each year in concert halls around the world; with regular stops in K-W of course.
Mr Bell’s is a cause worth supporting without a shadow of a doubt. I truly hope that many thousands concur with these sentiments.
Many thanks are due to Steve, his band and his Staff.
Gratefully,
Steve M

Would you please repeat that for me.

Hi Steve,
I came to know about you in August of this year when my youngest brother David died in a car accident. When i went to see his car at the police station, therein was your CD ‘Comfort my people’. right from then, i felt comforted and when i finally listened to the music i was not disappointed.
I thank God for you, i think you wrote the music in the CD for me in that hard time.May God bless you so much. By the way i think its very impressive how virtually all the songs you have in the CD are based on scripture.
Thank you,
Janet (Kenya)

Hi Steve. I am so glad to read that you are using your growing platform for reaching out not only touching people with your music but ministering in so many other ways. I see you are coming to Saskatoon. I am working on a Christmas dinner outreach in Peru and wonder if you would like to help promote this. The website is in need of serious updating but if you would like to know more give Lyle J a call. Blessings regardless on your life and work. Bob H.

Blessed By a Burden the Beautiful Beyond
I have been blessed by a burden
But I see the beautiful beyond
Satan’s grasp has loosened
Now Jesus is holding on
Crimson tides were rising
On that life that held me down
But I’ve been blessed by a burden
And now I see the beautiful beyond
Funny how that road can twist
As lives become unwound
Childs dreams are broken
And the grown-ups aren’t around
We cling to things that get us through
Though we know it can’t be right
And I’ve been blessed by a burden
I’ll tell you so tonight
The way I was I can’t explain
It happened long ago
A little girl she lost all hope
Her heart was hardened so
The blame I know I cannot place
Its simply not my job
I was blessed by a burden
Now I see the beautiful beyond
Sometimes it takes a day or two
Sometimes it takes a life
What challenges are placed on us
The measure of our strife
Some dig the hole they’re falling in
Some walk around I know
But when you’re blessed by a burden
Sometimes the getting there is slow
The length of time, it matters not
The outcome is what does
The greatest burdens buried deep
Cannot withstand His love
He whittles them away until
Those burdens change their form
Then you are left with a blessing
And you see the beautiful beyond
I have been blessed by a burden
But I see the beautiful beyond
Satan’s grasp has loosened
Now Jesus is holding on
Crimson tides were rising
On that life that held me down
But I’ve been blessed by a burden
And now I see the beautiful beyond
Yes I’ve been blessed by a burden
But I see His beautiful beyond

Steve,
We sang your beautiful “Ready My Heart” as one of our prelude songs to Christmas Eve Mass last year. It was a very stirring moment for all. Our pianist was gifted enough to have figured out the chords to accompany us; however, we may not be so fortunate in the future. Do you have sheet music for Ready My Heart, or, for that matter, for all the music in “Feast of Seasons”?
Thanks, Sandra

It was so good to see you here in Calgary, and what a fine honor to pray for you as my Brother in Christ! I have continued my prayers for your health. (I’m a nurse). We were the late ladies at St. Peters, and I must tell you that my friend, whom I brought to the concert for her birthday, was deeply moved to tears numerous times through your ministry that night.
As we prayed that night, it is not about the performance, but what the Spirit shall do with your offering…
Bless you and Praise be to God!
P.S. I have written a poem, and it keeps coming back and back to me to share it with you…it is about our journey to give up the things of this life, and Follow Christ, but the question I ask, is whether He will be my winter sun while I grieve the losses…let me know if you are interested in seeing it…I thought it would make a beautiful song…

Hi Steve,
I was able to attend your concert last night in Calgary, AB (Oct 22/09) – thanks for sharing with us (even under the ‘influence of drugs’!)
I am currently a music student, specializing in church music — and I was profoundly struck by your comments yesterday about the need for young musicians to be mentored by great songwriters. I agree! But I feel at a loss as to how to do that, and who some contemporary writers would be. I desire to write music that holds the depth of some the great hymns. I surely would appreciate your thoughts on this…
Thank you!

Hi Steve,
You and I had a wonderful friend in common but I also had the priviledge of having him as my teacher from grades 7-9 at Calvin Christian. I had the joy of getting to know him again for the last while of his life. God had richly blessed gerald with the beautiful talant of art. He was good no wait, excellent at it. I am talking of Gerald folkerts.
A man who encouraged me in own art of writing. I now write articles for our church website. Gerald gave you a bible verse in Ecc. I think. My memory is very foggy right now. YOu wrote a song called Eventide> a song that rocked me to the very core of who I am.
I would like to know if I could get the lyrics for that song. I am making a scrapbook of gerald for myself. I still have a hard time believing he is gone. When you sang at his funeral it was then that I cried for the first time since his passing. BUt what a wonderful place he is in now. I came into the city whenever I could and saw him for the last time a week before his death.
I would greatly appreciate the lyrics and is possible for the music for the song as well.
Thank-you
God bless you

Hello Steve;
I was in the audience on Sunday night in Lloydminster, and I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed and was inspired by your presentation. And contrary to your comment, I certainly DID know who you are – I’ve been listening to your music for several years, and was so excited that you were going to be here. You are an incredible musician and songwriter, but I was equally moved by your stories and bits of “theological info”! And your sense of humour completes the whole package! Thank you so much.
It was also nice that you focused a bit on St. Francis of Assisi as it was his feast day on Sunday.
I hope you are blessed with many more years of sharing your gift with people.

Hi Steve: I’m a former Winnipeger, a fan, and a new independent Christian artist. I see you’ll be in Calgary for the GMA conference. I’m sure your plate is full while you’re there, but if you happen to be free October 21, I’d be honored to have you come to St. George’s Anglican Church where I’ll be showcasing for the first time. I’m praying for new relationships to be forged and more doors of opportunity for ministry to open up–not to mention a night of inspiration and encouragement for all who attend. Hope to see you in Calgary.

Greeting Steve..I’m writting this thru crying eyes.I just came back from Lk Burien Pres. to purchase two tickets, you have been at our church in the past( Joh Knox pres.) I don’t know who dropped the ball on that one..but glad your coming.I have had two tragedies this year..my husband died Jan. 25th after being in the hospital nine days,at that time a friend from church gave me your Devotiion c.d. I listen going to the hosipital and had it playing in his room,he died suddenly and of course I was in shock. But everytime it played in the car. Then March 12th my only son died of a over-dose while living in a half way hoiuse..I thought he was on the way to recovery, he was forty two yrs old,he was in the hospital two days and then we knew he was really brain dead, so on the 12th we removed the breathing tube, your c. d. played every moment ..all the doc and nursees, cleaning people would make a comment..nice music..wonderful music..etc.It wasn’t until I picked up your tickets and they gave me a c. d. aboiut your life etc.I’m grateful you asked your friend Gordon and Biron ( sp.? ) to record and that they said yes. I cann’t tell you how much that c. d. helped me thru the deaths,I guess I know now…I’m a recovering alcoholic and sober twenty one yrs, only one alcololic can understand the despair. I’m looking forward to seeing you next week,I’ve always enjoyed you at JOhn Knox and now I have a deeper gratidude for you and your music..God Bless, Gerri Walters

Steve,
Peace be with you.
Being out on the east coast is tough for the reason that i do not get to see you as much as when i lived in Winnipeg. Hope all is well with you.
i did see that you are coming out to Nova Scotia early November. i live at a L’Arche community in Cape Breton and i wonder if it might be good for you to come have a visit here. L’Arche has a very unique charism to offer the church and i wonder if it might not be mutually beneficial for you have a visit with us. We have a lovely chapel here that i often think would suit your music so well. And we have much hospitality (and possibly) inspiration to offer you here. While we are not huge, we could certainly try to cover your costs, feed you (both physically and spiritually) and give you a place to stay at our guest/retreat house.
i know that this is a rather unusual offer, but i pray that you will take it in good faith. if you cannot come out here, maybe i will even try to make it to New Glasgow with my 4 year old; he is a big fan!
God’s blessings to you in your ministry.
Namaste,

thank you for your prayers Steve, I know you remember me as we went to the same church when we were younger and we have seen each other in the last couple of years, it was my son that Lucy Felbel was asking for your prayers, and I thank both of you, the pain will always be with me, but I believe that God only brings us here for a little while, to do the things that he wanted us to then he takes us home, the only thing with that is the whole in our heart that is made. Hope that you email me

Hello!
I was wondering whether anyone had ever danced to your music, in a professional, on stage sort of way. I am sure there are lots of us out there who dance in kitchens and living rooms and on paths through the woods etc. I have heard that Winnipeg has a marvelous ballet company!
Once, while listening to Deep calls to Deep God (symphony version) took me on a little dancing trip. I was reluctant and tired but by the end of the lyrics I was in His arms and having a great time. Then, through the instrumental part He made me sit down, you know, like at a fancy dress ball where the man goes to get his partner a drink while she rests. I kept telling him I was ready to dance and asking when could we start up again etc. Then you began the wordless prayer part and suddenly God took me flying! It happened all of a sudden and then He asked, “Better than dancing?” in His gentle, comical way.
Since then I have choreographed many dances in my head to your music. I know diddly squat about choreography except that I can see bodies moving in my head, celebrating God’s glory in rhythm.
Seems to me the Winnipeg Ballet wouldn’t want to be outdone by the Orchestra….
With much gratitude and best wishes, Nicola

Steve,
Your music and your testimony and sense of humor have meant so much to me….encouraging me…uplifting me….keeping me company through long rides and walks. You have no idea how good we sound together….
I was just reading about your new song and although i do not have a suggestion or comment there so far, I do have an idea or inspiration that i wanted to share with you. We are studying the book of Genesis right now and i was intrigued by the idea of Cain and the land of Nod. I think that you should write a lullibye. Did i mention that you and i have slept together…..well gone to sleep together anyway! Anyway, back to the land of Nod……in our vernacular it is the.land of sleep but in the Bible…..it means wandering. Cain “settled” in the land of “wandering”….an oxymoron. It would be wonderful if you could compose a lullibye for parents to sing to children or sing with their children…..or even an “ear worm” for people like me who have trouble sleeping on occasion or letting the world keep us awake.
Thanks for listening…..hope this inspired your creativity.
Sincerely
LNR
ps i was also struck by the fact that although “am i my brother’s keeper” is something we all have heard….i am surprised that those of us who have been angry have not embraced. “lets go to the field”/////maybe there is a song there too

We own the Christian bookstore in Portage, Man. with a cafe. Your music played for all to hear brings Jesus here with a special touch of His love. People in the cafe comment and buy the CD’S as a result–many who do not know God. This is why we exist, right! God to be lifted high in glory and we to be privileged to give Him that glory. Thanks for giving a great opportunity in your music to allow Jesus to walk among us and speak to the hearts of people.

I like the clean “airy” look and feel of the new site. On my first visit I seemed to be seeing too many “serious faced Steve…” now more images of Smiley Steve (better imo).
In this box mainly, the font color is a bit too light to see easily while typing.
FWIW – in the website link here, I’ve posted the youtube URL to a music-video I compiled using my favorite “Jesus movie” clips and your song “This is Love.” It’s been getting good reactions – hope this is all okay – Thanks as always for your generosity, love and encouragement!

Hey Steve — Love the new website. Just keeps getting better and better! Cute story to share . . . I recently gave your Devotion CD as a gift to the Seminarian at our Cathedral — he drove to southern Ontario a few weeks ago, listening to your music — he refers to his journey as the “trip he took with Steve Bell”. Your words and music are inspiring on so many levels, to so many people. How cool is that! I can’t sign off without asking . . . WHEN ARE YOU COMING BACK TO THUNDER BAY? I checked out your “Upcoming Events” listing, and our fair city is, sadly, not listed — what’s up with that, Buddy?
Best wishes . . . Peace . . . Enjoy your vacation.
Ciao! Norine

this is a BEAUTIFUL WEBSITE….VERY IMPRESSIVE, Steveo!!! anyways, love and hugs to your Mom, Dad and especially Faith and Dodie. Suzanne (you met her on the bus)wants to know if she can use some of your songs at our church: can you email me if NOT? please and thank you. Also, please pray for the Huska family: the world just lost an exceedingly loving, caring, SUPER POSITIVE HUMAN BEING: Rodmond Huska, who just passed his 21 st birthday in May. He left earth on June 24/09 and now resides in Heaven..where he is in charge of the Handicapped Parking Authority. Thank you for your prayers.

Hi Steve, I caught your last performance in Hamilton in June and must say after a long day shift at the steel mill that sunday, coming to your concert that evening was like visiting an oasis. Despite the inner ear problem you were experiencing you put on a heartfelt wonderful experience. You and Neal Morse are two of my most favourite Christian artists ever. I look forward to seeing you in Kitchener with the symphony later this year. God Bless.

Hi Steve:
Wow! I like your new site! Good job… We’ve heard from Ralf & Thelma Kalms that you’ll be performing in their (new) neck of the woods in Sept. We’re hoping to come & see you beings it’s the closest you’ve been to Eugene OR in AGES! We still love to play your tunes, they’re on our iPods & in our CD players a lot. Thank you again for your commitment to good Christian music & storytelling. We still think you need to do an instrumental CD. You are blessed with the talent to express God’s message via nothing but instrumental sound. Give it a try…
Wishing you & yours love & joy,
Sue & Ron LaMarche, Eugene OR

Hi Steve,
Your new site looks great! Very easy to find things and some great photos. My family is a great fan of your music and we love it when our church chooses one of your songs to sing on a Sunday morning. I agree with Barb, above, your music crosses many generations and appeals to all. We have an 11 year old daughter who is patiently waiting for your next concert in our area, as she has never been to one before, and can’t wait to see you in person. Well, there goes my husband and my date night !- up until now we’ve always got a babysitter for her and gone to your concerts just the 2 of us. It’s great thought that your music can be enjoyed by all!

Hi Steve
Great new site..There are not enough encouraging words to say about your music other than I am so glad and proud to play your music in churches and on my stereo.I had played Done Made My Vow at a fundraiser for church repairs and after the whistling and applause settled down I was able to tell everyone about the signpost website to point them in your direction.I always encourage people to come to your concerts as they are so inspiring and fun to be a part of.Last time you were in Halifax I requested You Are To Be Holy as it is one of my most favorite songs.I’ve been so blessed by your music and am totally thankful to God for your obedience in following his calling..I will be playing more of your music at our church in early September. My 12 year old daughter loves Done Made My Vow so I ‘m
leaving it to the Holy Spirit to speak to her to sing along with me this time.Your music crosses generations ,Steve, and it will continue to do so for a very long time. Thanks once again .We are anxiously awaiting your trip in November. Lauran , my 12 year old daughter , has her birthday in November and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate it with her !

Hi Steve,
Looking good. I hope you make it through the changes and the economic downturn with renewed joy and all your needs supplied in abundance.
Any news on when your next CD might be coming out. We are still eager to be able to hear “In Billy’s Wake” on a CD, though hearing it live at your last concert in Abbotsford was wonderful.
Cheers!

Hello Steve,
I like the new web site and all it’s pages. I enjoyed the short stories on the different guitars especially the summer nights in So. California.
I have several CD’s, song books, a DVD, and a VHS of a more personal Steve Bell, and an interview with you through Black Mtn. Radio 106.9 and Kevin Alman.
Steve, God has blessed you and many are touched by God through your music.
i really like the songs that come right out of scripture. I suppose “You Are Near” is my all time favorite. The first time I heard it my family and I were returning home, the three boys in the back, and all was quiet in the suburban. the song was still playing when we pulled into the driveway and all together my wife and sons shouted out don’t turn it off! I wasn’t about to!
I miss the other artist you would post on your old site. That was very nice of you to help others. It was through Sigh Post that I was able to get in touch with Bob Bennitt.
I know it’s not your song but I would like to have the chords or tabs for You Are Near, If possible.
Your Friend, Karl

Hi Steve
Saw you in Victoria a few years back and reintroduced myself. My name says it all – Drumheller is the connect. Wondered where and how your folks are. Love to reconnect with them as well.
Blessings on you and yours

The new web site looks great Steve! Very user friendly as well. You continue to be my favourite artist and I never get sick of your CD’s. (Just ask my kids!
) Because they are so easy to listen to and they not only are artistically appealing, but they deeply minister to my spirit. I love to sing along and many a dark cloud through the years has been lifted. Can’t thank you enough for your obedience to God and allowing his gifts to flow through you.
I have a question from a technical perspective. My 16 year old son is an extremely talented guitarist. He has a very good Yamaha schooling guitar which is rather useless for the kind of music he does. So I’ve permanently lost my Taylor “Jewel” to him. He loves it and it’s good for some of the stuff he does but I don’t think it’s the best for other stuff and I miss her! I’m wondering what type of guitar (body style as well as name brand) you would recommend we look at for the style of music he does? There’s so much stuff out there we don’t know where to start! I’m tempted to just stick with Taylor as I’ve never played a bad one, but maybe I’m just being lazy? I think you played a Stonebridge for the Symphony sessions? Anyways, you can see what he’s doing here: http://www.walkyouthroughit.com/jonathan/
Any comments from anyone else who has experience with guitars would be appreciated as well!
Blessings, Bee
