DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: Due to a recent injury\, Steve Bell will be unable to attend the Day Retreat as planned. We’re delighted\, however\, that Malcolm Guite will be leading the retreat in his stead. It promises to be a rich and inspiring day of poetry\, reflection\, and conversation. \nThe Anglican Poetics Project Presents:\nThe Bell and the Bard – A Day Retreat with Malcolm Guite and Steve Bell \nSession 1. In Praise of Collaboration\nMalcolm and will talk about the significance of artistic collaboration with plenty of examples from his body of work. \nSession 2. Introduction to the Anglican Poetry Tradition\nMalcolm will unpack the Anglican Poetry Tradition\, looking specifically at the poetry of R.S. Thomas\, George Herbert\, John Donne and his own contribution to the tradition. \nSession 3. How To Write a Sonnet\nMalcolm will discuss the sonnet form\, its inherent beauty and power to draw both the writer and the reader into a deeper knowing. This session will be practical and will help participants attempt or improve their own sonnets. \nSession 4. Poems and Songs for the Liturgical Year\nMalcolm will talk about and perform examples of his artistic engagement with the tradition of the liturgical year. \nFollowing the retreat\, there will be a service of Holy Eucharist at 7:00 PM at St. George’s Anglican Church\, with guest preacher Malcolm Guite. Open to the public; all are welcome to attend. \nThis Program is made possible through a Vital Worship\, Vital Preaching Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship\, Grand Rapids\, Michigan\, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc. \n*Registrants for the retreat will receive a coupon code for 20% off the Bell & the Bard Concert at the West End Cultural Centre on November 2nd. \nSaturday\, November 1\, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM\nPrice: $39/person \n* Please note that the catered lunch option is now closed\, as we had to provide our final numbers to the caterer. You are still welcome to register but you will need to supply your own lunch.  \nCANCELLATION POLICY: 
Full refunds less a 20% admin fee will be granted for requests made at least one week prior to event. If you are unable to attend\, you may transfer your registration to another person. Refunds cannot be granted for the catered lunches.
